dismissal at Mass

does any one else get amused when we say “Thanks be to God”, right after “The Mass has ended”??? (the mass is over, thank God!)

A friend of mine is Byzantine, and right before the blessing, the people say “Give the blessing.” When she was little, she and her sister would say it loudly and dramatically, especially during the loooong Holy Week liturgies
