OK, yeah, I can totally understand that, too. Right now, I plop my children down in front of PBS kids, and I’d be really frustrated if that became morally wishy-washy.

But I also know that the people who introduce gay characters to kids honestly don’t believe that there’s anything wrong with homosexual behavior. And that’s what I think is worth remembering, in these conversations.
Some days I can’t get by without Curious George or Dinosaur Train

I hear Cinderella and Snow White now have a “thing” together.

Seriously, though, folks, what purpose does topping one another in shock do, in this thread? We don’t live in a Christian society. Stop blaming non-Christians for not being Christian, and go convert them!

Otherwise, you are just indulging your prurient curiosity while reassuring yourself that you are “good” and these other people are “evil.”

(I know, I know, I’m painting with a broad brush. Please forgive me, I guess I’m judging people for judging people again, darn it! 😊 But I honestly don’t see what good this conversation is serving).
I appreciate the heads up as I have three girls that watch Disney.

We are also called to always speak the truth and when I do it’s not because I feel better than anyone else, good grief, I do it so I might be counted as one of the fortunate ones to go to heaven plus I really admire Jesus for what He has done for me.

Yeah, I understand that there is a valid reason for the thread. :o

I’m puzzled as to when I said that we should speak anything other than the truth. As to whether we should speak certain truths in certain situations, obviously there are times when it is wiser to say nothing at all.

I was referring to sharing among other Christians issues such as this. At the very least it helps us to vent our frustration but can also spur us on to pray and be part of a solution. Paz.

I think it often just serves to make our rhetoric more extreme. It’s an echo chamber.

?Huh?
Disney’s early films contained a plenty of witches!
Did you prevent your children from watching The Wizard of Oz?
(both good and bad witches there).

.
They were clearly fictional characters in crazy costumes. I’m talking about the “witches that go your high school” presentations. Incorporating witches in something that ends up like a morality tale is quite different from witches that are presented as “cool”, and as an acceptable lifestyle. Give me a break.

“Amy this is Taylor’s other mom, Sheryl.”
“Oh Hi, this is my husband Bob.”
“Nice to meet you, come on in…(to wife): Taylor has two moms.”
“Nothing gets past you, Bob…”

The entire, very regular, exchange takes 15 seconds.
You think the above is “over the top” and “obnoxious”?

.
This is how most shows deal with homosexual.characters. As a screenwriter and writer myself, this is how I would deal with it. You never make someone’s innate quality the focus of the story. That’s when it borders on annoying or even preachy.

I once thought that the reason we Christians talk about right and wrong is so that we as the “good ones” could distinguish from the “bad ones” until I realized I was one of the “bad ones”.

I am not surprised that this is now in children’s shows. The enemy is targeting the next generation and is essentially using the back door to find a way in. I urge people to be weary of Disney shows and other kid shows. Many of their shows portray the family structure in a terrible way. (i.e. the kids manipulate the parents, the husband is a goon who is always screwing up and ALWAYS in the wrong, the wife is always right, etc.) Watch a few episodes of Good Luck Charlie and you will see what I mean. Kids need to be watching shows that model respect, integrity, and honesty. When people think of TV they don’t usually suspect disney or kids shows could be bad, but these messages are popping up everywhere. If you have children please monitor what they are watching, it has more of an influence than you know. I am a teacher and I hear kids talk about what they watch everyday. They act like the characters they love and often adopt behaviors that they see on TV.

I think that Disney did this because it isn’t uncommon to see a gay couple in society. I know of people who are gay and have children. I see gay people who are at the movies, restaurants, etc. Obviously they are in the minority, but it is fairly common to see.

I don’t agree with SSM, but those who are appalled/shocked that Disney did this, what do you say to your kids when they say that Timmy has 2 dads, or why are those two ladies holding hands at the mall?

There is way too young of an audience for Disney to show this. Also, it is just another example trying to show our young that homosexuality is not disordered. What do we do as parents?
I unsubscribed to cable and blocked the channels that shows like this and GLEE are on. And, I tell my kids the truth about subjects like this so that even if they hear lies about it from public school or on TV they at least are also hearing the truth about it coming from me and their mother.

Really?
Several biographies, including one published in 2010, reports he was homosexual–Jane Wyman and George Cukor are quoted attesting to this, as well as some younger Disney stars.

Whatevuh.

.
I presume that this is the same school of journalism which claims John Paul I was assassinated - or, alternately, the same school of perversion which claims Watson and Holmes were gay.

Take your detraction and slander elsewhere, please. The fact is that, under Disney, there was no homosexual content in the company’s output. That isn’t the case anymore.

The skit was more than 15 seconds of screen time but ok. And yes I did think the show had an obvious agenda, albeit one that kids can relate to. I thought they wanted to get across the point that all families, even the ones with two mommies, are equally valid and deserving of acceptance.

There is no agenda, here. An agenda is when the main quality of the character or main value of the story is pushed to near annoyance. For example, if someone told Taylor that she “doesn’t have two moms because God made them male and female”, that would be pushing a Biblical agenda. Eventually, to be frank, it’d get kinda preachy and I’d change the channel, but you get the point.

I hear that theory quite often, ie if it exists our kids are going to see it anyway so there is no point in censorship. No wonder so many kids look at pornography and worse anymore.
