BTW there is no Express Pass at DisneyWorld. There is something you can pay for at Universal to get to the front of the line, but at Disney, the option to skip lines is via the Fast pass option, which does NOT cost and is open to anyone who puts their ticket into the Fastpass machine for a particular attraction. It will generate a paper ticket telling you what time to come back, bypass the line and ride.

Ah, then I am corrected. We just recently went to Universal, and the Express Lane pass saved us hours of waiting. I thought Disneyworld had the same thing, but apparently not. Good to know, though, for when we eventually see Disneyworld again! It has been 12 years now, and the girls are now teens. My elder teen was just an inch too short for Splash Mountain then, and she was heartbroken! She still longs for the day when she can finally take the plunge!

They always have the party the same week of December every year. There’s no way they’ll change it to please DH.

Weather in Florida is always tricky. We’ve been hot and cold in January there. I would be prepared with light jackets and maybe a pair of jeans and sweatshirts. Personally I prefer walking around the parks all day in the 60s rather than 90s. I also find there is less rain during the winter months.

60’s wouldn’t bother us. I’d just hate to be walking around the parks if the temps dipped below 40-50 degrees. Yikes. We are trying to escape Ohio, ya know…

What goes on at this party that he needs to be there? Is it written in his job description? or somewhere otherwise stated? I’m just wondering because I used to be in HR and if this company doesn’t have a justifiable reason for firing him, it’s called “lawsuit.” Ask him if he knows of any other manager not attending the party and still keeping their job. If so, the company has set a presidence that it is not mandatory for managers to go, and therefore he would he would have leverage in case they tried to fire him. However if they have… that might be a different story

Sorry, sounds pretty drastic, and maybe not worth the pursuit to you. But I can’t abide lousy employers. (Have known too many.) Just because they feel like they are allowed to make their staffs’ lives miserable because they pay them, doesn’t mean they are allowed.

I agree they are a lousy employer. I have a long list of gripes about their policies. But unfortunately, most of the employers in the field DH works in operate the same way. They are NOT employee friendly. And DH isn’t about to rock the boat because he just got promoted into management, it was a great opportunity thats making it possible for us to keep up with the rising cost of living…if he hadn’t got this new job there’s no way we could have been able to keep up with the rising food/gas costs.

I guess it’s looking like we’re going in January. I just absolutely HATE pulling the kids out of school right after they’ve returned from Christmas break. But I guess I have no choice if I ever want us to have a family vacation. We’ve never had one before! Can ya believe that?! It’s time!

Congrats on your first family vacation!!! You are going to make so many beautiful memories and looking back on them I don’t think it’ll bother you that the kids were out of school for it. It may bug you now (but I’m sure they won’t mind, lol) but just let it go and have a wonderful time!!! I am so excited for you. I pray that we can take a nice family vacation when Lily is older. But until then could I live vicariously through you? (so take and share lots of pics with us)

Weather.com says averages for January in Orlando are a low of 50 a high of 72. Ohio during that same time is a low of 19 high of 33. If it is 19 degress when you leave, 50 will feel like summertime. Of course these are averages, we were fine in Disney in Jauary. The only thing I would suggest is little gloves for first thing in the morning if you are early risers, with sweatshirts. By afternoon we were all back to shorts and t shirts and eating more icecream than you could believe. I remember watching the parade was so much fun, compared to the other time in Disney in May when it was so hot during the parade, we were all sunburned (despite constant sunscreen applications) and my little one cried she didn’t care about Mickey at the end she wanted to go home. It was hot, she was tired, I wanted to cry.

I am sure if you talk to your kids teachers about this opportunity they will work with you. A week in Disney with the family will make so many wonderful memories.

Would you consider going to FL in Feb.? By then, you will have forgotten Christmas break. I used to take my kids out of school for Disneyworld. We got all the work ahead of time and had it done before we began the trip. Also, I think the weather in Feb. may be more reliable than during Jan. And if you don’t want to take the kids out of school, do you have a winter break? That may be a good alternative.

How long have you lived there?

I have visited for many years during Jan. and Feb., heck sometimes March, April and May…Jan was lovely last year. I seemed to have better luck with weather in Feb., but I am only a visitor, not a resident.

That’s the thing though…we have to work around my school schedule. Fall semester ends Dec. 12 and Spring semester usually starts the third week of January…And DH isn’t allowed to take off the two weeks of Christmas and New Years. That pretty much leaves us with no choice but to take the kids out of school. It’s either that or go in the summer and there is NO WAY we would do that with the heat. Heat doesn’t bother me, but DH would be a bear and Jacob would be miserable.

So, since DH is now required to attend this Christmas party, that leaves us with two weeks in January to choose from. Ugh.
