I bought a keychain from Disneyland that had the name “Mary” on it. Every time I see it, I always say a quick Hail Mary. I got two questions.
  1. Should I get it blessed?
  2. If I do get the keychain blessed, can I still use it as I would with a normal keychain?

  1. You can if you want to.
  2. As long as you don’t use it for anything profane.
🙂

You can ask a priest to bless it, however don’t be surprised or hurt if he refuses. Blessing of objects is usually reserved for religious items such as rosaries, medals, statues, ect… You can certainly still say a Hail Mary when you see it; that is a nice practice!

I agree. There are tons of personalized novelties at Disney parks; the fact that the name “Mary” may appear next to a picture of Mickey Mouse or Cinderella or Tinker Bell or whatever doesn’t, IMO, make it a fit object for blessing. Which of course is entirely unrelated to the laudable practice of praying the Hail Mary.

You may certainly ask to have it blessed, but then remember that it is only to be used for the glorification of God and His kingdom.

As for those that say the priest may not bless it, I would be sure to tell the priest how you use it. I think this information may help the priest understand why you want such an item blessed.

Lastly, blessings are not limited or reserved for certain objects. Maybe certain objects, (homes, pets, throats, rosaries) are blessed more often, but most anything can be blessed so long as it is to be used for the glorification of God. I know many people who have their cars, golf clubs, clothing, sports equipment, etc. blessed. It is a wonderful way to remind us each time we use that item that we are to make ourselves Holy in everything we do.
