We need to pray and remain hopeful the Church will rebuild from the devestation of the past forty years. The new bishops are strong defenders of the faith and don’t acquiesce to social whims and novelties. There will still be challenges from those intent on changing the Church so our duty is to know our faith and be able to defend it effectively for the greater good.

From Father Z’s blog:

"Skirmishers are circling in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. At issue is the legalization of unnatural, same-sex “marriage”.

Archbp. Nienstedt undertook with the help of lay people to send to Catholics in Minnesota 400K DVDs. The Archbishop is exercising his office as a successor of the Apostles, a pastor in the Catholic Church, to pass on and interpret the rule of Faith.

Another protest was launched against Archbp. Nienstedt by college students at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. No bastion of Catholic orthodoxy, there."

The devil is taking the battle into the churches.

Similar thing happening in the Philippines where I heard there was supposed to be people attending Mass this past Sunday wearing black t-shirts with the word “DAMASO”. This came from a protester who entered the Manila Cathedral to disrupt a Mass being held by the Bishop and attended by local Church leaders and some Protestant leaders as well. The Mass was offered for the defeat of the impending Reproductive Health Bill which seeks government funding to make ABCs accessible to the masses (ie. poor people). Damaso came from Padre Damaso, the main villain in the fictional novel Noli Me Tangere. He’s an abusive Spanish friar and epitome of abuse both by the Spanish colonial government and the Spanish-run Catholic Church in the Philippines (the archbishop and the priests are all Spanish citizens). This issue has pitted Church vs. State and anti-Catholics are opportunistic to take advantage of this situation to sling their dirt at the Church.

Sad that this thing is happening everywhere.

Continuation of the story - Archbp. Nienstedt refuses Eucharist to college students at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota - however…

“The Rev. Rene McGraw, a professor of philosophy at St. John’s, said he held a short mass for the small group later the same night in which he served all of them communion. He took issue with the archdiocese’s interpretation of canon law when it comes to who can receive communion.

“My understanding of church law is that one is not to deny communion to anyone unless he or she is a public sinner, and that has traditionally been interpreted very narrowly,” McGraw said. “My instinct was these are people who were in need, I’m supportive of them, therefore I’m happy to say mass for them.”

God bless this bishop, there is a saying that we have on the street for men who stand up and are courageous, but it’s not appropriate for this site ;). The renegade will soon start to show their fruits, and those fruits are rotten.
