I have some doubts about this whole situation. So, today we’ve had a discussion on language lesson about money importance in our lives(discussions are considered rather as practicing oral skills). There were two groups: for and against, I chose the second one. It occured there are few people less in the other. So then teacher asked who was absent last week(it appeared that students stated who is for and against that day) and it was me. So she asked if I could change the group to “for”. I said no because Im against and it matches myself and I want to stay there. Then I said it would hurt me if I said opposite things, being previously asked about it. And now this concerns me if I disobeyed the teacher in a serious matter? Or was I egoistic and stubborn with my behaviour? It wouldnt change much because I didnt say any word(yes, I was a bit afraid and not fully wanted to participate). And the topic was is money the most important in your life. I think this sounded stubborn in her view. But in other hand, I chose this option and why would I change my views to opposite? I really didnt mean to dishonor, do this on purpose.
I think I am getting scrupulous…

If you simply switched groups, and the teacher allowed you to, I don’t understand what the problem is.

She asked if I could it but I didnt. Thats my concern

You did not disobey your teacher in a serious matter. Sometimes it can be beneficial to go into the ‘other’ group though as it forces you to think of what someone in that group may say and how they may see things.

Why would you be wrong if you are convinced of your beliefs? Arguing for the sake of arguing has been criticized by many older smarter people including Immanuel Kant who said dialectics for the sake of it (as oratory) is a form of seduction and manipulation and will never produce logic.

was she angered by this, or just kinda ‘ok, whatever’?

It was like: well, I do want many things but we dont usually get them. A bit nervous, disappointed?

For future reference, being able to argue a view you don’t personally hold is good practice. It helps you better under stand the opposing position and strengthens your ability to argue against it and for the position you actually hold.

No he didnt force me or tell to do but I struggle with feeling that I did was egoistic and didnt ffollow the teacher

A recommendation ≠ a command. Be at peace - IMO, you’re fine.

But I dont know if it was a just recommenadtion. It may have been a polite command. I mean it wasnt something like “change it now” but it wasnt also “i recommend you to change the place”. But generally I dont see any sense in this situation, there were maybe 3 people less and on that condition I was asked to change my place. I think I may worry too much. I was feeling bitter and miserable at home. This almost led to fall into temptation
