Hello all, I have a question. I recently got back from a pilgrimage and on one of the days our mass got pushed to right after lunch due to a scheduling conflict at the church (maybe 10 minutes from when we stopped eating till the start of mass). The priest said he was giving a group dispensation from the obligatory fast, saying something to the effect of “I am assuming the permission of the local bishop and granting you all a dispensation from your fast, you may feel free to receive communion if you are otherwise able.” It didn’t feel 100% right at the time but I chose to receive as did most of the other pilgrims. Since then the question has lingered so I was hoping to get an answer one way or the other. Was this licit to offer and/or did I commit sin by receiving the eucharist without fasting first. Thanks for any advice on this issue so I can confess it if necessary.
