Watching on TV from another location is not participating in the mass. Whether that location is near or far, whether the mass is live or pre recorded.
Yet the people in the overflow room hear the words, see what the people “in the same room” see, pray the prayers along with everyone else and participate in the Eucharist.

How is this not participating? Again, reference please.

😉 We’re a lot alike then.

I spent 14 years in formal theological study and have an MA in Theology from a Catholic seminary and have never heard that one is failing to fulfill their obligation by (necessarily) being in an overflow room.

I get the “at home” difference, I was just looking for a clearer articulation.

So if one is totally obstructed (tall dude, post, etc.) then the obligation fails?
No, as I said you are still there.
What about someone who is blind? They cannot see. Or deaf, they cannot hear.
And again. STILL THERE.
Is seeing with one’s eyes and hearing with one’s ears legitimate criteria? You seemed to imply so: “you are hearing with your ears and seeing with your eyes”.

But they are NOT in the same room and are NOT participating in the mass.

and participate in the Eucharist.
Which can be done outside of mass. And in which case is being done outside of mass if someone is giving communion to people in some other location who are watching a mass that is taking place elsewhere.
How is this not participating? Again, reference please.
It isn’t participating in the mass, or as it is phrased elsewhere in church teaching assisting at the mass.

I already gave you the reference. L

As I said— even if obstructed.

Reference for this specificity? (It’s not in the UCCB document)

Let’s say you’re in the Narthex and can see well through the door. The usher closes the door (for whatever reason…keep the heat or A/C in, whatever). Your participation ends? A mom or day take their crying baby into the Narthex so as not to disturb the Mass. They cannot see from the Narthex. Is their participation at an end?

Let’s see a legitimate reference.
Already given more than once in this thread.
The priest in the Sunday visitor column? I’m asking for something “official”. Encyclical. GIRM, etc.

With all due respect, without such a reference it seems like an opinion rather than a prescription.
