Hello there `

My daughter has been a fellow for a couple of years now and they are beginning to discuss the possibility of marriage. He is a non-Catholic Christian, however, he has never been baptized in any denomination. He was raised in the Seventh Day Adventist church. He is not opposed to getting married in the Catholic Church nor raising children in the Catholic Faith. However, he is not ready to become Catholic. Will they be able to be married in the Catholic Church? What will be necessary for them to do this? I have read about getting a dispensation perhaps, but how does one go about this? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! 🙂

Yes, they can get married. He simply needs to agree that he understands that his spouse will remain Catholic, the Catholic will raise the children Catholic, and he needs to agree to the Church’s understanding of marriage (faithful, open to life, and lasting until death).

Because he is not baptized they need a dispensation from disparity of cult. This dispensation, though not onerous to obtain, is required for the validity of the marriage.
