OK, I’m a newbie here.
I tried the search function for this issue but it always told me it could not find that answer. So here is my question.
I would like to know what is the proper way of disposing of the species if it is not eaten or drank. Such as when the blood of Christ gets dropped on the floor and is wiped up with a cloth. I have heard that burning it or burying it on holy ground is a couple of options.

Any wine left over is to be consumed either by the priest or deacon, not the EM’s. The hosts go back in the Tabernacle. The Precious Blood is not to be poured down the sink in the sacristy (even the sacrarium). If any is droped, a small cloth called a purificator is to be used to wipe up the Precious Blood, then it is cleaned in a special sink in the sacristy called a sacrarium (it has a French drain, that is, goes directly into the ground, not into the local sewer system). Then this cloth can be washed in the normal way, usually by the priest or deacon (This is one of the jobs of the deacon, by the way.)

If your church has done away with the sacrarium. The pruificator can be rinsed in a bowl of water and the bowl poured onto the ground in a place that is not walked on.

Remaining Blood of Christ should be consumed or remaining Hosts should be placed in the tabernacle or consumed . The first water used to rinse the Chalice should also be consumed. The Second rinse can be placed down the sacrarium. The first rinse of the ciborium should be poured into the chalice and consumed. One never drinks from a ciborium. The second rinse can be poured down the sacrarium.

How’s this–

At daily Mass the Extraordinary Minister will cleanse the Chalice, drinking then wiping it with the cloth. After Mass, the chalice is taken in the sacristy and then the bathroom where it is rinsed in a regular sink. UGH!! 😛

In the case that the precious blood is spilled on clothes(and this happened at my church) the shirt or whatever has to be soaked until no trace of the precious blood remains and the water must be thown on the ground…I think…this should be the right thing to do, right?

Well I hope you are not requiring the person to leave the parish with no shirt on their back!😃

In our parish, if there is a spill on someone’s clothing, they are asked to go to the Sacristy after mass to see a priest or deacon. If the spill is small the priest or deacon will clean it with water and a purificator, if the spill is large and there is no change of clothes for the person, the person is instructed how to clean it at home. I guess we have to put some trust into our fellow parishoner’s.👍
