My mother and father were lifelong and devoted Catholics their entire life. My mother died in 1990 and was buried in one of two plot my father purchased. In 1996, Dad remarried. He decided that when he died, he wanted his body cremated. Upon the death of his second wife, she would be buried in his plot, with his remains placed in an urn with her body. At the present time, his ashes are locked in a vault at a funeral home.
My question is, are his remains currently being handled in accordance with Church teachings? Furthermore, when his second wife dies, is it canonically proper for his remains to be placed with her body?
I have a non-Catholic family member who has posed this question and I don’t know how to respond.
Thanks,
Jeff
