I am looking for any online articles that define and attack the philosophical underpinnings of moral relativism and show why it is wrong. Can anyone be of help?
Well, the first step, as always, is to understand a position before you attack it. I recommend this basic overview:I am looking for any online articles that define and attack the philosophical underpinnings of moral relativism and show why it is wrong. Can anyone be of help?
What do you mean by ‘moral relativism’?I am looking for any online articles that define and attack the philosophical underpinnings of moral relativism and show why it is wrong. Can anyone be of help?
I don’t think there’s a straightforward answer to that. Moral relativism regards things from the perspective of particular societies, so the Law of Moses and Jesus’ amendment of it could not be taken up in universal prescriptive fashion (as you seem to suggest) unless they had been so taken up from a descriptive perspective (which they were not). What do you mean by ‘moral relativism’?
In 50 BCE was it moral to stone an adultress to death, as stated in the Law of Moses?
In 50 CE was it moral to stone an adultress to death, after that Law was amended by Jesus?
Does the fact that the Law on this point changed over time make it ‘moral relativism’ or not?
