Disrespectful "rapping monk" from the order of franciscans

Ave Maria as we know it now with piano would be vehemently opposed in the past. Also this isn’t during mass. I don’t think it would ever get approved by the bishops for liturgical use. But hey, a church in a music video about god? What’s the big deal?

He’s not doing this in Church or in Mass.

When random kids surfing the net find this, they might be intrigued and start looking up other Catholic videos, or even maybe visit a Church.

If a monk/friar can love God and rap, then why can’t they? That’s what they’ll think.

It’s like the movie Sister Act. People don’t think Catholics can be “cool” and love Jesus. God could use this terrible rapping monk in ways that you don’t know about.

Loving others is always a good way to draw people to Church, and if you can relate to them where they’re at, even better.

I don’t know, I was a young kid once and I loved rap. If I saw something like this I’d think it was corny and probably think the church was corny too

How is god being abused? Just because a guy raps about god doesn’t mean he’s being abused. People praise in different ways. Get used to it

I bet God was pleased that someone did something creative in a attempt to honor Him. I am sure that was The monks intention. Are you so sure God felt “abused?”

There is nothing wrong with what he is doing. He is just not a very good rapper, rapping to a horrible form of hip-hop.

You obviously don’t understand how serious this is. It is not a joke as some of you think. Being a Catholic is standing up for what is proper!

Yeah, I was thinking maybe he’s doing it to draw youth into the church. 🤔

I took a peek at his website, and apparently he was a rapper who fell into a really destructive lifestyle. However, he saw the power music had to influence his life in a negative way, so after his religious conversion he decided to use music to influence people in a positive way. The lyrics are actually really nice. If this reaches someone, that’s a great thing. He’s genuinely trying to do some good here.

Also, I don’t think it’s terrible…he’s doing some pretty interesting things musically.

I don’t think you would be saying this if he was doing a country & western song. You appear to be upset because it’s a monk doing hip-hop.

Should Surgite Postquam be played during the Mass?

A lot of people of the day didn’t think Jesus was proper. He did a lot of downright un-kosher things like (gasp) talking to fallen women. To pagan Romans and Samaritans. Touching corpses. Touching lepers. Touching ladies who were menstruating (aka the woman with the 12-year flow of blood).

Not proper at all, no siree.

Can you believe this is now the norm
How is this the norm? I can’t recall seeing anything like this.
to make boastful rap videos
Boastful how?
filmed and recorded inside the church with the blessed sacrament inside
I didn’t see rap recorded in a church, just praying.
a rapping monk paid to live as a monk to do these shenanigans with our tithes.
You see shenanigans, and others see artistic expression. There was a time that organ music was considered scandalous and profane.

However unlikely, this monk might be trying to make money. They can’t all sell coffee.

I didn’t say it was a joke. I watched the video. I didn’t care for the music and couldn’t find a reason to condemn it.
