Hello,
I have been asked to look into taking some theology, preferable moral theology, course(s).
It would preobably have to be distance learning of some sort. I have never had a distance learnign or online course.
Has anyone here ever taken something like that? Any recommendation?
It is really hard to know which ones are good and worth while from their course descriptions.

I’m doing distance learning master’s degree from Franciscan and it is very good. Are you looking for credit classes?

Not necessarily for credit. It maight be good to have it for credit though, since I don’t know what I’ll be needing later on.
Franciscan was first on my list, but their Moral Theology class is in revision.
Are the classes really good? I have never done the distance learning before.
What kind of an academic background do you have? What are the individual course requirements, essays, tests, …?
I may need to look into something other than moral theology.

This might answer some of your questions about Franciscan (the one I was thinking might be right for you, too):franciscan.edu/home2/Content/DistanceLearning/main.aspx?id=664&cat=119

Sister Rose,

There are three that get mentioned here:

Franciscan (already noted)
Holy Apostles College and Seminary holyapostles.edu/link.php?action=expand&ID=34
Catholic Distance University cdu.edu

If you do not want to take it for credit and want something very affordable, try Notre Dame’s Satellite Theological Education Program.

You take the course on line with other students. They offer moral theology. You have to submit assignments for grading and you are awarded contact hours.

Incidentally, CDU appears to have revamped their programs (consolidated and changed prerequisites). Looks great! Only problem is that they are sooooo darned expensive. Tuition is 390 per credit hour at the graduate level. That is $1170 per course for a DETC accredited program. If they are not careful they will price themselves out of the market.
