Disturbed by a show I saw on TV

I am temporarily staying in my parents’ home and every once in awhile my father will watch these shows that always cause me anxiety (shows about Aliens, Freemasons, Non-theistic scientific theories, hauntings). It really makes me mad at times because I’m afraid to be in the same room as him because he might start watching that stuff and I can’t really tell him to stop since it’s his home

The particular show I’m talking about on this thread is called Ancient Discoveries It’s on the History 2 channel.

This episode talks about certain Catholic supernatural phenomena’s. The episode was called The Secret Science of the Occult Here is the summary from Wikipedia:

In Britain, investigators uncover the secret technologies behind a life size statue of Jesus Christ that miraculously came to life. Weapons experts reveal the science that saved a holy military order from certain annihilation in the bloodiest siege in history.

I was wondering if anybody has seen this episode.

I didn’t see the full episode for fear that it might damage my faith so I don’t know what conclusions they came to but it seems like they are trying to say these religious miracles are the product of some occulted technology.

Does the church test for stuff like this when they try to validate a supernatural event?

Have there been times when these events were false and a product of the devil?

How can we tell what supernatural events are legitimately from God and the ones that are not?

Sorry for all the questions and rambling but I’ve been obsessing over this all day 😦
 
It’s all a bunch of nonsense, these things are concocted to get people to watch, but they add up to nothing. You may trust the Catholic Faith, it’s survived every attack for 200 0 years, because it’s God’s true church.

When you get anxious about these shows, I want you to do two things. Make an act of faith “Jesus I put my faith and trust in you”, and speak to the voice of anxiety by saying “this voice is a lie, get away from me! I put mytrust in Jesus Christ”

This voice of anxiety and fear is not from God, if you repudiate it then it will flee. Keep doing this for a few minutes or as long as it takes. Your acts of faith will please the Lord and the evil one will run away.
 
Oh and one more thing: next time your Dad puts one of these silly shows on, go to another room and read the gospel instead!
 
Yes,as far as I know, the Church does test to make sure events are miraculous and not a product of human ingenuity.

Yes, the Church has investigated and found events to be the result of human ingenuity and not of God.

How can you tell the difference? Faith. Trust God and the Church to let you know what is real and what is false.

If you don’t approve of what is on TV you have the option of politely asking your parents to find something else to watch that everyone can enjoy. If they particularly want to see some show they can always DVR it and watch it later when you aren’t there. If that doesn’t work, you can go do something else during that time.
 
I agree with Fr. Steven. Those shows are mostly fraud. When I was a kid, there was a popular book out called Chariots of the Gods (Eric Van Daniken). In later years, if I recall correctly, it was shown that Van Daniken just made everything up.

If you are interested in mysteries, though, there is no greater mystery than that which resides in the Holy Spirit that resides in your soul. “The Kingdom of Heaven is within you.”
 
Hogwash!! Those programs are full with “experts” who explain why they are right. I once saw a show about “Ancient Astronaut Theory” and had a good laugh. There was this crazy thing about how the egyptians had electric light because there was some copper wires in a pyramid! Sadly no explanation was given where the light-bulbs was.

Do you have your own TV? Can you go somewhere else when these shows are on?
 
If you are staying in your parents home watch what they watch or go in another room. Sure you could find something else to do.

Just because your Dad watches shows that disturb you does not mean he should not watch them. Our faith is tested everyday but we know the TRUTH. When Jesus is the Rock we stand on nothing can shake our foundation .

Honor thy father and thy mother. Quietly remove yourself.

LOL I saw that show too… and a few others just to give myself a laugh… but even for me things got too ridiculous lol when they tried to say that Mayan’s rode around on dinosaurs LOL … And when some woman claimed to be talking to alien angels from Venus LOL … sometimes I want to give these people a good shake to see what falls out LOL
 
People make all kinds of claims.

Consider Lourdes. It’s been a pilgrimage site since the 1850s. How many thousands of people have claimed miraculous medical cures at Lourdes?

The Church has only approved 66 miracles as genuine. That’s less than one every two years.

The Church rises above the noisy nonsense.

I have been watching quite a few Programs on Ancient Aliens. The last one i watched They think Jesus Christ is a Alien. They talked about these Alien beings are ultra-terrestrial. Angels Demons coming in and out of our dimension walking among us.
Also Genies and Djinns etc ctc.
 
Some Christians speculate that the antichrist might claim to be from an alien planet since so many people believe in that nowadays. Then when he commits signs and wonders, it will “make sense” to people who believe in aliens because they will think it is just “advanced technology”.
