Diversity in Catholicism

Catholicism has such diversity and we ought to respect that. I am not talking about diversity of belief, since there is but one religious Truth, the Catholic Faith. I am speaking of spiritual diversity.

But among all who profess belief in this One Faith, you find MANY different types of saints.
You find epic Catholic royalty like Queen Isabella I, Charlemagne, and St. King Louis IX. You also find St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi. Both equally Catholic.
You find Pope Francis and Pope Innocent III, making us either think of the Year of Mercy or the Inquisition. Both equally Catholic and great Popes.
You find metal band Cradle Catholic, Catholic rapper Joe Malendrez, Matt Maher, and lovers of Gregorian Chant, all of which use music to glorify the SAME Creed.
You find social justice advocates and theology nerds.
You find traditional Masses and Charismatic ones.
You find the passive martyrs under Rome and the Cristeros.
You find volunteers at pregnancy recourse centers and activists in the March for Life.
You find people who bring Christ to others through their friendliness and others who bring Christ to others through logic and research.
You find Dorthy Day and John F Kennedy.
You find Carmelites, Franciscans, and Jesuits.

I think you get the point. Within the Church we have a beautiful array of true diversity in our different spiritualities. Catholics do not all have to have the same exact mold, we are to fit whatever mold God gives us to glorify Him and His Church.

A religion which embraces a St Thomas Aquinas and a St Bernadette is certainly an altogether remarkable and rather wonderful thing.
 
It is a compelling thing, though somewhat daunting to someone who has come from monolithic bare walled Protestantism where everyone was expected to be cut from the same cloth in all regards.
 
That’s one of the things I love the most about the Church. We’re not a bunch of clones trying to fit some rigid model of “what is the right way to be.”
