I was given a copy of Divine Intimacy by Fr Gabriel of St Mary Magdalen, OCD, as a gift upon my ordination to the diaconate last summer. I’m thinking about taking up the mediations in it. Should I read them start to finish as they’re given in the book, or should I start with where we currently are liturgically, namely with the meditations for Easter? It seems that they are pegged to the liturgical cycle, but also systematic. So I’m unsure whether I should seek to read them progressively as they develop or in line with the calendar.

There’s surely a benefit to being in sync with the liturgical life of the Church; but if a particular section title jumps out at you, there’s nothing wrong with diving in there. Personally, I keep two bookmarks; one for where we are in the Calendar, and one for a section that applies to a situation I’m going through.

Seems like a sensible way to go about it.
