I thought I had posted this here but realize now I didn’t, I only mentioned it in another thread. Still if there are a few weeks left, hopefully if you’re in the area you can come for some days of the Liturgy.
DIVINE LITURGY to be celebrated weekdays in the upcoming weeks. Newly ordained Fr. Ninos Oshaana will celebrate Orthros at 8:30am and Divine Liturgy at 9:30am. It is the tradition of the Church for a newly ordained Orthodox priest to celebrate 40 consecutive Divine Liturgies following his ordination. The Cathedral says “Please join us for worship as you are able.”
A short interview back in May with Fr Ninos:

Check their calendar under “This Week’s Services and Events”, though most days it has been 8:30 Orthros, 9:30 Divine Liturgy, but this week DL looks like it will be at 8:30. It’s a mixture of Greek and English. The chant is a personal favorite, traditional Byzantine single cantor occasionally with a second doing ison.

It’s a great blessing having the Liturgy daily. It’s a remarkable show of support that the cantors are there daily as well as several altar servers. This is not a monastery so these for lay faithful, including children, assisting with these.

All are welcome. I’ve been there a number of these days, and those of us in the pews, 5-10 or so, have on some days all been from other Churches (OCA, Coptic, Russian Eastern Catholic), not Greek. 🙂 Some days other activities are going on after the Liturgy, On Fridays after Liturgy there is a lesson for the home-schoolers by Fr Tom, or Fr Ninos followed by a Greek lesson led by scholarly parishioners. These kids know an impressive amount of scripture, lives of the Saints, and Greek.

A picture from Fr Ninos’ ordination. Fr Nebojsa who recently was reassigned from the Cathedral to a parish in Vallejo/Benicia, is from Serbia, And Fr Ninos’ family is from Baghdad, Iraq. They may be the first priests to serve at Ascension who are not themselves Greeks. 🙂

Father told me it takes him an hour and a half to drive from home to the Cathedral. Please pray that his beautiful family may find housing closer to the parish.
