Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Dying

If you are praying the chaplet for someone who is dying, but cannot be at their bedside would the promise of Jesus still come to pass?

What if the person prays from a distance? Saint Faustina had a love for the sick and dying, and she prayed for them with great fervor. The following experiences recorded in her Diary make it clear that one does not have to be at the bedside physically. She wrote, “It sometimes happens that the dying person is in the second or third building away,** yet for the spirit, space does not exist.** It sometimes happens that I know about a death occurring several hundred kilometers away. This has happened several times with regard to my family and relatives and also sisters in religion, and even souls whom I have not known during their lifetime” (paragraph 835, Divine Mercy in my Soul)

Thanks so much. The reason I asked is the fact that I have been praying for my dying neighbor across the street from me, and he passed away at 10:30PM last night. For some reason I did not get to bed until about 10PM, I usually go to bed about 8:30 or 9:00. Anyway, I finished say the Chaplet for him and I looked at the clock and it was 10:30PM. I learned this morning that he had passed away at 10:30PM.

It seems you had the same experience as Saint Faustina who also looked at her clock and asked for exact time of the death of the person.

Especially now, while I am in this hospital, I experience an inner communion with the dying who ask me for prayer when their agony begins. God has given me a wondrous contact with the dying! Since this has been happening more frequently**, I have been able to verify it, even to the exact hour.**
Today I was awakened suddenly at eleven o‟clock at night and clearly felt the presence near me of some spirit who was asking me for prayer. Some force simply compelled me to pray. My vision is purely spiritual, by means of a sudden light (219) that God grants me at that moment. I keep on praying until I feel peace in my soul, and not always for an equally long time; because sometimes it happens that with one “Hail Mary” I am already at peace, and then I say the De Profundis and pray no longer. And sometimes it happens that I pray the entire chaplet and only then feel at peace. I have also discovered that if I feel constrained to pray for a longer time; that is to say, I experience interior unrest, the soul is undergoing a greater struggle and is going through a longer final agony.

This is how I have verified the exact time:****** I have a watch, and I look to see what time it is. On the following day, when they tell me about that person‟s death, I ask them about the time, and it exactly corresponds, as does the length of the person‟s last agony.****** They say to me, “Such and such a person died today, but she passed away quickly and peacefully.” It sometimes happens that the dying person is in the second or third building away, yet for the spirit, space does not (220) exist. It sometimes happens that I know about a death occurring several hundred kilometers away. This has happened several times with regard to my family and relatives and also sisters in religion, and even souls whom I have not known during their lifetime.

It seems you had the same experience as Saint Faustina who also looked at her clock and asked for exact time of the death of the person.

Thanks for this information. I saw Butch’s brother this morning and he asked me if I knew that Butch passed away. I said no. I did not ask the time, but he told me it was 10:30 Saturday night. After I said the Chaplet for him, I turned out the light and was pulling up the covers up and some urge made me look at the clock at it said 10:30PM. I knew him and his family for the past 24-25 years. I am deeply grieved by his passing. He did so much work on my house over the years. He was not Catholic, I am not sure he was any religion, but he did believe in God and his Providence.

My brother and I prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy before the Blessed Sacrament @3:00PM before seeing our dying brother in a hospice 10 miles away. When we got there, he told us something that would break the rule about private revelations. He was at peace and died in peace, Fri. 10.16.15, 3:00 PM (the next day).

Distance and time are no barriers to Divine Mercy.

Distance and time are no barriers to Divine Mercy.

Thank you so much for this information. I have been praying the Chaplet each day for the past week or so, since he was put in hospice care. I certainly hope that Jesus found a way to offer him salvation. This was my prayer along with a peaceful passing, which I understand that he had.

I have often prayed the chaplet for the dying even though I was a great distance away from them. I used to work in a hospital. Every day I would pray to the Lord: “I place myself spiritually at the bedside of everyone who dies at this hospital today.” Then I would pray the chaplet. I feel that the Lord honors our requests. In fact, St. Faustina said that God takes whatever good intentions we have, even if they don’t always come out the way we plan it, and He calls it “good” and honors it. Knowing that, I will also place myself in spirit at the dying’s bedside even if that person has already died long before, even years before. God is not hindered by time nor space.

Thank you for sharing this with me. In the last year I have lost three friends that I have know anywhere from 25 to 30 years. Each one I have been very concerned about their salvation. I just hope that Jesus found a way to send them to purgatory, at the least. It has also been 7 years since my mother died on 12/26/08 that I also remember too well at this time of year. She died in much the same manner as Butch did. This didn’t help me too much either.

The Divine Mercy Chaplet is also powerful when prayed in times of great need. St. Faustina prayed this when there was a powerful storm and the storm ceased after some hours.

The same happened when she prayed for rain when there was a drought. Also, she experienced a vision when an angel who is preparing to chastise a city was held powerless by the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

Here is a another miracle where an airplane was going to crash. The prayers of the Divine Mercy Chaplet helped save the lives of everyone on US Airways Flight 1549 on January 15, 2009. The Miracle on the Hudson was truly a remarkable act of God’s Mercy

Thank you so much for sharing. I feel very close to Jesus in the Chaplet. I try to say it everyday. Sometimes I only get to say it at bedtime.
