What exactly is it? For what intentions/purposes would one pray it?

More info about DM:

This is one of my favorite devotions.
Great info. Thanks!

I just picked up the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet cd from the Mary Foundation and realized that while I have heard of, and heard, the Divine Mercy Chaplet I really had no idea what it was for.

I just found out about it last spring myself. There is a beautiful DM novena, also - I encourage you to pray it. The more I find out about DM, the more I love it. Also, Divine Mercy Sunday is an annual feast (I think weekend after Easter???) where you can gain a plenary indulgence for attending the DM devotions in your diocese.

I have started praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet on my way to and from work everyday… I used to say the rosary, but now my drive is too short. Anyway, I absolutely love the prayer but I have a question for you all.

What should one meditate on while reciting the words? What works for you?

Thanks

I meditate on his crucifiction, much as I would during the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary.

Well yesterday was my first attempt at praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet. It’s going to take some getting used to I think, but I found that the lightrail ride home is long enough for me to pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet using the Mary Foundation CD. Not a bad deal.

Great! It really is not that hard to learn, is it? And it is a nice devotion to pray, even if you don’t have a long time to pray.

Well as it goes “for the sake of His sorrowful Passion have mercy on us and the whole world” it would be the Passion I think of, mainly the sweating of blood and the terrible public flogging.

I wouldn’t say it’s hard to learn, but it’s certainly a devotion that is pretty new to me, so I think it’s going to take some work to get comfortable with it.
