As I had written in another thread, I don’t haven’t really had a private devotion to the Divine Mercy Chaplet. I’d like to try again; does anyone have any ideas where to start?

I’m lost in this devotion because even though the prayers are short, I find myself especially distracted. I don’t want to over-analyse this, because maybe this devotions simply isn’t for me, but what would make it easy to get into a routine of saying it? ( I can’t pray it after the rosary, because I’m pretty much drained after that exercise.)

My church has Adoration every Wednesday night, and as part of that, we sing the Chaplet of Divine Mercy together. That is how I developed a devotion to it. Check to see if a church near you offers the Chaplet during Adoration. I guarantee that once you have experienced it that way, you’ll want to sing it all the time. Something else that I did was TiVo the Chaplet on EWTN. If you have that service, it is nice to have it on TV whenever I want.

Maybe for a while instead of “reciting” the entire chaplet, you could pick one of the short prayers from the chaplet and really meditate on it, pray it very slowly, once or twice, pausing frequently and pondering the meaning of each phrase, and talking to Jesus in your own words about our need for His mercy.

I think there are times for everyone when reciting a particular chaplet or devotional prayer loses its appeal. It’s OK to try a different approach to prayer now and then. Keep it personal, between you and God.

Perhaps it isn’t for you, but have you tried singing it instead? At least for me it helps a lot to keep me focused giving this praise to God.

:blessyou:

Miserissima, you’re mistaken to associate pleasant feelings with the efficacy of prayer. The most efficacious prayers are the ones we say in obedience to Our Lord’s requests. The Divine Mercy Chaplet prayer is such a requested prayer. The difficulties, distractions, dryness, and repulsion you may experience actually increase the merit of the prayer, when persevered in out of obedience to Our Lord. Imagine the difficulties Jesus overcame in obeying His Father’s call to Calvary. In joining your discomfort to the sufferings of the Passion, the grace of Redemption is poured out as you struggle with the words.

There are several CDs with the Chaplet in song…beautiful one is also done on EWTN. This has worked really well for me. Good luck and God bless!

I found an audio Divine Mercy Chaplet with some lovely meditations on the five wounds of Christ (one before each decade). It really helps develop a deeper sense of the meaning of the Chaplet - you can listen to it here
