OK folks, an honest question. Just finished (after becoming aware of Christ’s request for us to do so through St. Faustina) praying the Divine Mercy Novena which began on Good Friday and ended today, Divine Mercy Sunday.

For the first time, I said a daily Rosary for Lent and really enjoyed it. I was not a Rosary prayer person before this Lent but I have had the most spiritually trying year of my life. I have developed a profound and previously non-existent relationship with our Blessed Mother and would like to keep that going as well.

My question is this: Does Christ ask us to continue to pray The Divine Mercy throughout the year? If so, when? Certain time of day? Does it have to always be part of a novena begun on Friday?

I found that a good Rosary takes about a half hour if you read the scriptures associated with the Mysteries; Divine Mercy was kind of like “Rosary Light” if you will. I found that it was easily accomplished in about 10 minutes. I travel and have 4 kids so taking a half hour everyday for a Rosary was a sacrifice, although very worth while. I feel as though I let our Blessed Mother down in the last 9 days as I substituted the Divine Mercy for my daily Rosary.

Any ideas on how to go forward? My faith has literally saved me and my marriage this year (recovering from an affair by my wife). It has had a happy ending however and I have grown incredibly in my Faith as has my wife who became Catholic as well. Despite her past transgressions I am very proud of her faith journey as well. I want to keep our prayer life rolling!

Wow! Relax. The folks in heaven aren’t jealous of one another. God is the only one who reads our thoughts. In some mysterious way He sends the prayers to saints to ask Him things. They all get along and work together for good.
There are no rules for proper ways to say your private prayers. IMHO you’re on the right track.

I’m a bit lost at RitasKid’s comments…anyway…

The traditional hour for the Divine Mercy is 3:00 PM, although you are free to pray it any time, just as you are the Rosary. In fact, Relevant Radio’s Drew Mariani show prays it every day at 3:00 PM Central Time over the air, with people calling in for specific prayers for each decade. It isn’t necessary for it to be part of the Novena. In fact, one parish I visit prays it after every Mass.

I’m glad your Faith is growing. Let that light SHINE!

Perfect answer, thanks. I thought there was something about 3 pm but thought that was for another prayer. I guess I am a bit confused because the prayer is easy enough like a rosary but the novena has it dedicated to very specific souls on very specific days, kind of like the rosary with certain mysteries on certain days.

Actually I’m a bit surprised that more is not made of the Divine Mercy. Christ very specifically asked St. Faustina to have a novena beginning on Good Friday. Seems as though 10 mins a day for nine days is a small price to pay for Christ’s sorrowful passion on our behalf!

I think I will try to continue to do a Rosary everyday and if I am available at 3pm I will pray Divine Mercy. Seems as though it would also make a good substitute for a Rosary on the days one finds themselves crunched for time as well?

I’m confused at her comment too. Just saying you did not let the Blessed Mother down. Go forward in peace.

Our parishes always make a big deal of divine mercy Sunday. They encouraged the novena before Good Friday with leaflets in the pews. Then today there was a holy hour starting with exposition, then the chaplet (sung/chanted) and a litany and prayers for the pope’s intentions. It ended with benediction and priests heard confessions the whole time. It was really beautiful.

St. Faustina - Divine Mercy

687 Once, as I was going down the hall to the kitchen, I heard these words in my soul: Say unceasingly the chaplet that I have taught you. Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy. I desire that the whole world know My infinite mercy. I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy.
