Hi there! I have heard of Divine Mercy Sunday, the chap let, and the novena but never really read up on it too much. I have been reading a lot about it lately and am really intrigued and overjoyed about the mercy truly involved. I am planning on doing the novena starting on Good Friday. My only question is this: in the diary The Lord says that we should pray fir " Lukewarm souls," on the last day. What does lukewarm soul mean in that context and why do these souls offend Him so much? Thank!!

Lukewarm means they are indifferent about their faith and especially about Jesus. Just take it or leave it. It really isn’t that important. A sin is not all that bad. Everyone is basically pretty good so what is the big deal anyway? Church isn’t that important. God is good and they over exagerate about people going to hell because God is better than that. And beside I have better things to do than praying which I don’t know if it will be answered anyway. Let’s just get along and let alone. Besides wasn’t everything made to be enjoyed? And that buisness about turning the other cheek is really a bit much. Everyone will be ok if they just mind their own buisness.

Basically their faith doesn’t mean much to them at all.

Lukewarm is tepid, not strong, weak, not really hardly hot or cold.

The Divine Mercy devotion is amazing!

Here is a fitting description of lukewarmness (they are Our Lord’s words to St. Faustina):

“There are souls who thwart My efforts (1682). Souls without love or devotion, souls full of egoism and selfishness, proud and arrogant souls full of deceit and hypocrisy, lukewarm souls who have just enough warmth to keep themselves alive: My Heart cannot bear this. All the graces that I pour out upon them flow off them as off the face of a rock. (1702).”

St. John Vianney’s description: “He will [make] so little change in his way of life, that it is easy to see that he is only fulfilling his duties from habit and routine… [He possesses] a love of God and of neighbour which is without warmth or pleasure…"

“Oh, if you would leave Me to act; I would splendidly transform each one of your lives. But you oppose Me by your desires, your tastes, your resistance. My omnipotent Love is limited by the limit of your generosity.”

(Jesus to Sr. Mary of the Trinity)

Jesus Divine Mercy to St. Faustina.

1702: Souls without love and without devotion, souls full of egoism and self-love, souls full of pride and arrogance, souls full of deceit and hypocrisy, lukewarm souls who have just enough warmth to keep them alive: My Heart cannot bear this. All the graces that I pour out upon them flow off them as off the face of a rock. I cannot stand them, because they are neither good or bad.

YAY!

You are welcome to follow along with many of us on this thread: “Divine Mercy Novena starts Good Friday”

It’s my first time doing the Novena, and the first time ‘leading’ anything on a forum.

I became enamored of the Divine Mercy chaplet just over a year ago, shortly after Divine Mercy Sunday. I love the prayer!
