Hope I put this in the correct area.

I want to participate in Divine Mercy Sunday. Now I know you are supposed to receive Communion on Easter Sunday. I was not able to make it.to confession. Is it permissible to receive communion and then go to confession the next available time, that would be next Saturday. Thanks for your help, I just want to participate in the Grace’s from it.

@CRV Unfortunately I am not in a state of grace right now 😔
That’s why I was asking, I was planning on going but was so exhausted from work I never woke up in time, slept most of the day. I wanted to be able to get the Indulgence from it. Next year I guess.

Thank you for your prompt reply my friend.

Yes, perhaps Divine Mercy next year. But why not try to obtain a plenary indulgence after you’ve been to confession?

E.g. Go to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for at least half an hour.
Praying the rosary with others.

I’m confused.
You not receiving Communion on Easter has nothing to do with Divine Mercy Sunday.
If you want to participate in Divine Mercy Sunday, you have to receive communion on Divine Mercy Sunday, which is a week away. You need to confess between now and then to get into a state of grace to receive. You have a whole week to get this done.

Here are the instructions for Divine Mercy Sunday:

Thanks for picking up on this, Tis_Bearself.

I assumed it was just a typo re “receive Communion on Easter Sunday”, and that the poster actually meant Divine Mercy Sunday, and I assumed the OP does not have an opportunity to get to confession before then.

Under 99% of circumstances where you are not in a state of grace (or many would advise if you are unsure), no. If in doubt, consult a priest. Others have addressed the rest.

Divine Mercy is next Sunday. Can you get to confession before next Sunday or in the 7 days after next Sunday, Or find a parish that is celebrating Divine Mercy Sunday, they usually have Confession before the mass on Divine Mercy Sunday.

Since he said the next available confession time is “next Saturday”, that would be April 27 and he can easily go then and receive Holy Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday which is April 28.

OP, you said you could go “next Saturday” then this should take care of your Divine Mercy problem. If there’s some issue with you getting there next Saturday you could make an appointment with the priest. I would recommend you try to go before Divine Mercy Sunday because while many churches do have confessions, often (at least in my area) they are in the afternoon after most or all of the Sunday Masses have finished, so if you were hoping to receive communion at a Sunday Mass on Divine Mercy Sunday, it’s easiest if you are in a state of grace before Divine Mercy Sunday arrives.

(From the Divine Mercy Chaplet Pamphlet at the back)

“I want to grant a complete pardon to the souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My Mercy”

I believe you can/suppose to go to confession on the Sunday then receive Holy Communion afterwards

Thank you 😊

I had a brainfart, for some reason I was thinking Divine Mercy Sunday started on Easter Sunday and panicked, lol. Now that everyone mentioned it is next Sunday, I was like, oh yeah that is correct, Haha. Thanks though for helping. I appreciate everyone’s help in this matter, I can always count on CAF!

Hahaha, understandable. You’re very welcome.
May God grant you His Love and Mercy.
Have a joyful and peaceful celebration of the Holy Resurrection
God Bless

I initially got confused about which Sunday you were talking about.

I would like to comment on something I don’t think anyone has. You say we are obliged to receive Communion on Easter Sunday. That’s not correct. Of course, we have to go to Mass as we do every Sunday. You must be in a state of grace to receive Communion but not to go to Mass.

We are obliged to receive during the Easter season. I think that’s lent to Trinity Sunday.

If you are not in the state of grace you do need to go to confession first.

Yes, I know. However, the OP said there was an obligation to receive on Easter Sunday. The Easter obligation must be fulfilled during Easter not on Easter Sunday

I know that’s the rule in the USA. Each episcopal (bishop’s) conference can determine it for their own territory.

I know, and that’s why I said you can’t receive Communion if you’re not in a state of grace.
