Words from Jesus from Saint Faustina’s diary:
On that day the very depths of My tender Mercy are open.

I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon these souls who approach the Fount of My mercy [the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist].

The soul that will go to Confession [beforehand] and receive Holy Communion [on that day] shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.

On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened.

Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet.

The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness.

It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter.
I’m just starting to read St. Faustina’s Diary, so I should have a better handle on this by the time the Feast rolls around. Thanks for the quote!

Wasn’t it Cardinal Fulton Sheen who said that hearing a nun’s confession was like being stoned to death with popcorn?

Can you imagine Mother Teresa everday? 😉
Small correction: It’s Archbishop Sheen. He was never elevated to Cardinal (I wish he had been!).

Sir Knight:
It MAY be MORE than a Plenary Indulgence and based on Jesus’s own Words recorded in Saint Faustina’s diary … … complete detachment from all sins MAY not be a requirement.
Actually, having reread, you’re quite possibly correct. Thanks for the correction. Wouldn’t want to discourage anyone from their devotions to the Divine Mercy

On a side-track here… you just have to read this story. I got chills. angelfire.com/ms/seanie/BVM/claudenewman.html

It’s about a prisioner/s on death row who are being catechized. Why don’t priests preach homilies on this? Don’t they realise how important it is?

And how many parishes promote Divine Mercy Sunday and tell the laity about this great grace from God?
Because it is the second Sunday of Easter…Divine Mercy is a devotion tied to the day, and you could certainly have a mass for it…but it is not part of the Second Sunday of Easter…that’s why

Jesus told Saint Faustina *“Souls perish in spite of My bitter Passion. I am giving them the last hope of salvation; that is, the Feast of My Mercy. If they will not adore My mercy, they will perish for all eternity… Tell souls about this great mercy of Mine, because the awful day, the day of My justice is near.” * Then Jesus said *“My heart rejoices in this feast.” *

Yeah it has the connotation of being a special day of grace where the floodgates of divine mercy are flung open. It’s not just another plenary indulgence among many but a singular day of grace wherein both personal sin and temporal punishment are blotted out. That is why it’s compared to a second baptism. Baptism doesn’t requirement detachment from all sins to be effecacious in blotting out both personal sin and temporal punishment. You merely have to have the minimum requirement of sorrow to receive confession and communion within the allotted time requisite for the feast of Divine mercy.

Well having too many baths or showers can damage the skin, but I don’t think there’s such a thing as too much cleansing of the soul in confession.

It’s a fact JP2 used to go weekly, and I read somewhere Mother Teresa apparently went EVERY DAY :bigyikes:

Gives mere mortals like me something to think about …
And, we don’t have to be in mortal sin to go to confession; frequent confession “refines” our conscience and the graces gotten there helps remove bad habits.

Unless, of course, the person goes frequently because of scrupulosity (confessing sins that are not sins), and may need some spiritual direction and healing in that area.
