Quick question;
Can you go to Confession today(Saturday) and Communion tomorrow and have it be relevant for Divine Mercy Sunday.
Or…
do you have to go to Confession tomorrow(Sunday) and then Communion after that?
Just trying to work out the logisitics,
Thanks!

Yes, the Holy Father decreed that you can confess during the Octave.

I love Divine Mercy Sunday. We always have at least 4 priests for confession and a special Mass at 3 pm.

Where I’m at, there is no such thing as Sunday confession…its on weekdays and on Saturdays.

I thought to meet the obligations to get the “Paid in full” Indulgence for Divine Mercy Sunday, one had to do the 9 day Novena leading up to it, then confession and communion…this is what the Priest in the confessional told me today…whats the deal, I cant find info right now… I did confession and am doing communion Sunday…but I didnt do a Novena… so did I dodge a holy bullet and win my Get Out of Jail Free Card…receive a partial Indulgence, or do I still have to pay that Holy Gift Tax? 😉

Being serious, just being lighthearted. 🙂

Perhaps you can ask cest to issue a fatwa on your confessional priest for being mistaken. 😃

The indulgence does not require that you do the novena (however if you ever have done the novena you know how beautiful it is).

Confession, Mass & Communion on Mercy Sunday = plenary indulgence. Remember, though, that indulgence is only good until you sin again. (With me, it probably ends right after the final blessing 😉 )

Are you serious?

Up until my confession last night, I am free from ALL the debt due all my previous confessed sins w/o the Novena…from my entire life to this point?

A few weeks ago I joked about def’ following the DM plan… but then I became miserable falling into mortal sin from personal stuff to watching how this Nation murdered Terri… I had NO inclination to try to follow DM this year (have never took advantage of it, btw)… then when I heard the Holy Father was gonna die, it shook me out of my fog, and made wanna go to confession to take communion for him… on my way there, it dawned on me, was I actually still qualified to meet the requirements for DM…but I still thanked God, that it wasnt my driving motive to confess so I can “escape” my recent wickedness, but if I do qualify I would be grateful and very unworthy.

I am very humbled that for me this is the greatest of Indulgences, and that despite my miserableness…The Lord granted it to me… and I thank the Holy Father and am also sorry that it took his death and not his life to shake me from my recent fog, and confessing with a gulity and trite heart, instead of thinking I was going in and escaping a debt bullet.

Is that so… I was told by some that you can make the confession some days before or after Divine Mercy Sunday. For reasons beyond my control, I could not receive penance today (Sunday). I did, however, go to communion (and–not that it is necessary, but prayed the Novena). My prayer was that I could still go Monday or Tuesday night. Am I out of luck? Where can one find the “official” requirements for this indulgence.
Thanks.

I’m confused too. I went to Mass this afternoon and received communion for my Sunday obligation. Then went to the Divine Mercy service and confession this afternoon. Did I still need to receive communion again after this?

IF we don’t get it exactly right to you think God keeps a report card?
At this point I guess it’s better luck next year.

ALL indulgences require FIVE things in no particular order but within the relatively short period of time of each other (meaning a few days at most):
  1. *] Confession

    *] Communion

*] Prayer for the intentions of the Pope

*]The particular act required to be performed – for Divine Mercy Sunday, it’s going to Mass.

*] Finally, in order for any indulgence to be plentary and carry the removal of ALL temporay punishment due to sin, a person needs to be free of ALL sin (including venial sin) AND also be free of any attachment to sin as well – this is where most people fail to meet the fifth requirement and most of them don’t even realize it.
If any of the above are missing, then the indulgence is partial instead of plentary (full).

Well, I’d like to be free from all sin and any attachment to sin, but I don’t think that has happened yet. I’m not even sure how you know you are free from all sin and attachment to sin. Also in light of the pope’s death, are we to still pray for his intentions? So I guess it’s the partial indulgence for me. Well, at least I have a better understanding for next year.

Since we have no current Pope, does the indulgence become partial only?

Thanks for the replies.

Re: the freedom from all sin and all attachment to sin (venial and mortal). I just try to place myself in the best disposition, and make a prayer to God that his grace would purify me from such attachments. Then, as that is all I can do, I leave it in his hands.
Indulgence or not, it is a beautiful devotion (especially the simplicity of the chaplet).

We still have a Pope and we pray for his soul. When a new Pope is elected, we will be required to pray for his intentions but we can still continue to pray for JP2.

WOW. I had no idea there was such a thing on Divine Mercy Sunday! So what is the indulgenced act again? We go to Mass and confess on the Sunday? Or is the act just going to Mass on DMS? (And the confession would then be part of the regular conditions for a plenary indulgence.)

If we have to confess on DMS, what if (as it’s been said and I don’t think there has been a direct response) the sacrament is only available Monday-Saturday? Also (again, as it’s been said) how do we know if we are free of all attachment to even venial sin? What does “attachment to sin” mean exactly?

I LOVE YOU

Mistakes in my life have caused me pain within,
I spent many sleepless nights feeling sorry for my sin,
One night into my heart gentle words said to me,
Let your heart not be troubled, I have set you free,
Remember that I love you just for being you,
My love is everlasting, Divinely Merciful and True,
Place your trust in Me and wipe away your tears,
My eternal love will fill you and conquer all of your fears,
At times daily struggles pull me from side to side,
Some battles have been lost, indulging in selfish pride,
I feel great sadness knowing that sin keeps us apart,
Once again those words of comfort echo in my heart,
Remember that I love you just for being you,
My love is everlasting, Divinely Merciful and True,
Many times you have strayed but I love you just the same,
When trouble finds you once again call upon My name,
Trust in My Mercy always as you journey on your way,
Repent and My Divine Mercy will wash your sins away,
Remember that I love you just for being you,
My love is everlasting, Divinely Merciful and true,
All that I ask is that you place your trust in Me,
Sin and death were conquered upon the cross on Calvary!
