Asking this for my Dad…
He was, until recently, a candidate for the Oblate program with a certain monastery of Benedictine derivation… They used this prayer book, because it had the 2 week Psalm cycle and the peppers for the Benedictine saints.
He has since left the group, for reasons that are irrelevant, but having to do mostly with excessive ecuminism.
He’s been going regularly to Mass and to say the office with the local Rosarian monks. (Who are splendid!)
Here’s the question: as the monks are Indian, they use the British Divine Office books, not the U.S. LOTH set.
Dad’s trying to figure out if he should get a set of the Divine Office books, or a LOTH set. I’ve taken my LOTH set, and the Psalms are the same, but the antiphons and the readings are definitely not… The antiphons are scarcely recognizable.
I know that technically, the Divine Office isn’t approved for the US…
Since he’ll be praying both with them and at home, does anyone have a suggestion?
