Ok, so, lots of caveats here:
  • No matter what you read here, there’s nothing definitive about it. Go see your pastor for a definite answer. What I write here is just meant as general info.
  • Everything I say here depends on the assumption that the facts you have given are accurate and complete. If there’s more info out there, or more accurate info, then none of this necessarily holds any water…
so…
  • Since you’re a Christian and your wife is not, then the Catholic Church sees your marriage as ‘natural’, not ‘sacramental’.
  • On the face of it, nothing you’ve said indicates that your marriage might be invalid.
  • However, I’m left with the question of why you’re asking about this… to us… in this way. Are you wondering about your ability to enter the Church? Are you wondering about your abillity to marry in the Church in the future?

I know that Church doesn’t allow divorce. I did however came across this passage

“But I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, excepting for the cause of fornication, maketh her to commit adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery”

This seem to indicate that divorce is not allowed, EXCEPT in cases of adultery.
Any thoughts on this?
I was under the impression that the exception clause was referring to the latter statement rather than the earlier.

ie. the latter statement is “maketh her to commit adultery” the exception is that she has already committed “whoring” herself (the Greek word fornication is porn) and therefore you would not be responsible for that future action, as she was already deeply involved in it.

I don’t think Jesus was making an exception of divorce, he was making an exception of responsibility.

I was wondering about the ability to marry in the church in the future. Also wondering about those who have divorced and remarried in a natural marriage and now have a family. Would they be Prevented from being Catholic ?

I Cor 7:10-16 Seems to indicate divorce is OK when your unbelieving Partner Abandons the Marriage. And if you marry again you have not sinned 1 Cor 7:27-28.

Me and my wife was separated for 2 years before i put in for a divorce while she was still living with this other Man.
Does this not show abandonment of Marriage ?
Also i found out while i was married and still together with her. Her belief to the Christian faith was negative. Although she did read scripture she believed one has to believe and understand the Opposite to what scripture says. She believed ALL Christians are Wrong by believing and understanding what the Scripture says.
She believed Cain was Right in murdering Able. That God was a Woman etc. She was into Egyptian Mythology and had books on it. I did take her to a Church for a few weeks. But she had a go at the bishop saying. We are wasting our time coming to this church because you do not understand what i am saying.
On the way home in the car i said to her calmly. I don’t understand what you are saying either
She then threw herself out the car while we was traveling at 50 MPH. Luckily i reacted quick enough and managed to slow the car down enough so she did not get hurt to much.
To me it seemed like she was not even a believer in the Christian Faith.

The Church does not prohibit divorce. The Church does now allow for remarriage after that divorce unless the first marriage is annulled. At least this is what I have observed. Divorce is a civil action that does not nullify the marriage in the eyes of the Church.
Totally agree , but was wondering what reasons should you present the church with to get an annulment ?
As I understand it if the marriage is annulled that person can marry again in the Catholic Church , correct me if I am wrong ?
I also wanted to share a sad thought too since I am originally from the Middle East I know for a fact now that since there is no civil marriage there Catholics who want to divorce and remarry get a divorce through the Greek Orthodox Church , and really how ironic even though they did not marry in that church she still grants the divorce and then they do marry in that church … So sad … They start new families while still while in fact they are still married to his or her first wife or husband !
Really sad
