Divorce Ok for Jewish people

My husband and I were having a discussion about divorce. I said that divorce is morally wrong for all people, no matter what faith or lack of faith they profess.

He says that if divorce is acceptable in their faith, specifically the Jewish faith, then it is not morally wrong and we must accept this as morally right.

Many faiths have different views about abortion, but I will go to my grave knowing that no matter how they try to justify abortion it is a great moral evil. I have the same views about divorce. Am I wrong?

The Church’s position (the only one that matters) is that divorce is a sin against the Sixth Commandment.

The Church recognizes certain instances (abuse, physical danger) when physical separation is necessary. In such cases divorce may be necessary, but remarriage cannot follow.

Also, you must understand that the unbaptized have a natural marriage, which does not have the character of a sacrament and is not *absolutely *indissoluable. A natural marriage can be dissolved by the Pauline or Petrine privilege in some circumstances related to their conversion to the Catholic faith or marriage to a Catholic. Christ gives the Church this authority. This is not the same as a Jew obtaining a civil divorce and marrying again.

This is called moral relativism and the Church views this as a heresy. God’s law is for all. The sins against the Sixth Commandment include divorce.
 
Things like abortion are objectively wrong and intrinsically evil, always. However, personal culpability may be reduced if one does not know that something is evil or if their religion teaches otherwise.
