I’m married to a divorced man but I’m not divorced. I understand my sins and would like to know if I can go to confession.

If you are Catholic you can go to confession, and the priest will decide if absolution can be given.

Are you prepared to abstain? Technically that is the only way you should be absolved.

Until your irregular marriage is made canonical, no priest will offer you absolution or readmit you to the sacramental life of the Church.

Talk with a priest. The best thing to do would be to make an appointment because then he can ask questions about your situation and help you better than he can in the Confessional.

Sometimes the best way to make an appointment is yo discuss how to make an appointment with him after Mass. Then he can give you the best phone number or email address.

Hmm, in theory it’s that. But there are a lot of hedeterotoxic priests, who can tell him that there is no sin to his situation

At the moment confession can be administered at the discretion of the priest.

If you intend to have relations with the man you are currently with then absolution cannot be given.
If you are going to abstain from sexual relations pending an annulment / reuniting with your husband then absolution can be given.

It depends on one of the qualities of confession which is the purpose of amendment.

I understand that this is hard for you; I will be praying for you.

Yes you can go to Confession but absolution will depend on three possibilities:
  1. Separate permanently.
  2. Abstain from any sexual relationship until an annulment can be granted.
  3. If annulment not possible but you do not separate then agree to live a life of continence (meaning no sex forever).
In my case number 3 applied. We decided to put God before ourselves.

This is correct. After spending a lot of money (to me it was a lot) and going through what to me was a LONG, arduous process to get the decree of nullitty I changed to a Church that seemed to be more welcoming of divorced members.

It’s lonely in the Church to be divorced. I also had full custody of two small children and it was hard to be in Church and see all the other what appears to be happy families when your husband left you and the kids to move on to another woman.

I received my declaration of nullity after 2.5 years of waiting and endless paperwork, witness testimonies, etc., only to find out that my the priest in my “new parish” told a couple that had been in a remarried situation without decree of nullities from either of their spouses were told to “use their conscious and commune if they WANTED to” for in his mind he’s seen worse sin.

I was devastated to think I had wasted time and money for this process when some priests were giving their parishioners full choice of whether or not to Commune in the case where no decree of nullity had been even pursued.

It’s my opinion now afer discussing this topic on a few forums, it’s not at all uncommon to hear a priest say that.

The Church needs consistencey on this issue and it is inconsistent from parish to parish.

Sorry but I don’t understand your comment. If you are not divorced and you have married a man who is divorced then you have committed the crime of bigamy.

Did you think you could not take communion or were you just lonely since you were at church with two little kids? Lots of parents are the only ones with their kids at church(minus the spouse).

As long as you weren’t in a relationship with a new man, went to confession etc, you were free to take Communion.

I think she meant she has never been previously married.
