Sometimes when I come to a realization after a crisis, I don’t know whether I reached it through my own reasoning or if it was a gift from God. And in these situations, I don’t know whether to thank Him or not. How can I tell the difference between something that comes from my own reasoning and something that comes from God?

God is the source of ALL good, even that which you reach thorough His great gift of Reason.

“Do all good things come from God?”

YES!

Thank Him for everything. After all, true humility is knowing that of ourselves, we are nothing- everything good is a grace from God. 🙂

Thanks guys, I appreciate your responses but I have a follow-up question:

How do I know whether a certain revelation comes from my God-given reasoning or directly from His intervention (where I wouldn’t have been able to use my reasoning to get to that point)?

I’m *still *struggling with that! 😛

Honestly, when that situation comes up, it is best to talk it over with a priest. Even better is if you can procure a spiritual director to help you discern what is from God, what is from you, and what is from a darker source.

When a priest is not available directly, or you cannot get a spiritual director, then reading St. Ignatius is a good way to go. He is the best saint in helping people to discern spirits. 🙂
