I know this question sounds rather silly, but I’d like to know your thoughts on this question. Do they or don’t they have bellybuttons? and Why or why not.

Blessings

Why would they need them…?

Angels are pure spirits. They do not have material bodies.
👍

Even if they did have physical bodies, I contend that they wouldn’t have belly buttons because the belly button is a result of the umbilical cord, which is a necessity in human birth. Since they were not birthed in the manner that humans were, and in fact were not “birthed” at all, I contend that they would not have belly buttons.

The Ante-Nicene Fathers would say that when they choose to appear, they do so by manipulating the matter around them (air and dust) to assemble what we would call atoms in such a way that they can appear human. This would include a belly button if they wanted one.

If angels look how they are described in the Bible an umbilical cord is the least of the differences between them and humans. Check out Ezekiel:10; 9-14.

The “bellybutton” is what’s left from the umbilical cord, a necessity for placental mammals and people in utero. As angels do not have material bodies and do not gestate, there is absolutely no reason for them to have them, and they do not. Nevertheless, if an angel were to take on the form of man, they might have one for that reason.

Haven’t gotten close enough to an angel to notice. Now, pink flying elephants is another story. Why, I remember one time… But perhaps on another thread:D

Funny how everyone insists on saying something, whether it is relevant to the exact question or not, after the question itself has been perfectly answered…

Sometimes it’s nearly as funny as a heart attack!

Heh, I wasn’t exactly referring to you (you can be counted on to be funny no matter what) but rather to the varying tangent posts that talked about what an angel would look like IF it had a body, how an angel could look if it took on a visible form, or other various things.

Heh. I’m not mentioning this to insult anyone, but rather I’m noting a somewhat amusing phenomenon which occurs on every single question thread on CAF.

Well they’d be very short threads.

That’s not always a bad thing. Sometimes I think it would be more beneficial for the poster who asks a yes or no question to have one clear, succinct answer, with a few other people agreeing and confirming that correct answer, and then nothing more. All else is often just a distraction, although it can sometimes be enrichment.

Why couldn’t they have belly zippers instead of belly buttons?🤷

Since angels are pictured as wearing long robes (with or without wings), they would not appear to a human in any clothing which would reveal more than head, neck, hands (& maybe arms) and feet. Exception: St. Michael, who appears in armor, with a short “kilt”. None of these would reveal the abdomen. Can’t imagine an angel appearing in any type of clothing which would reveal the torso or abdomen. Also, the first respondent was correct – angels are not born, therefore no umbilical cord, therefore no bellybutton! (The only exception seems to be angels in diapers who are shown in medieval paintings as infants or young children, and maybe those had bellybuttons painted in, maybe not (can’t remember!) But no, they have no need for them, therefore do not have them. They were never born as we were.:D:D

Enough said! (Although I’ve heard 2 - 4 year olds ask the same question!)

I posted the question to “lighten” the atmosphere around here. Some folks get so involved with their intellectual abilities that I find it a bit tough to endure at times. 😃
