Love isn’t necessarily free will. We love our parents for nurturing and caring for us. If you remember Stacy Castor’s case her daughter mentioned she loved and hated her mother who tried to kill her. This was because her mom tried to kill her (hate) but her mom was still her mom(love).

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created heaven and earth. 2 Now the earth was a formless void, there was darkness over the deep, with a divine wind sweeping over the waters. 3 God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. 4 God saw that light was good, and God divided light from darkness.

I imagine God created the angels as part of heaven. When He created light and saw it good, some angels refused, choosing what was not good.

I struggle with this point.

Before Lucifer decided against God, his will would have been either for-God or at least not-against-God.

It seems as though he had to decide, at some point, to go against what he was already previously doing. If his will is eternal and unchanging, however, this cannot be.
I think it’s a mistake to apply the concept of time, of before and after, to heaven. One can imagine that when an angel is created, they immediately have full knowledge of the choice before them, and instantly make their choice.

Interesting to note that this is another of the differences between Christianity and Islam: According to the latter’s teachings, angels do not have free will. The devil is a different order of being in their cosmology—a jinn, to be precise.
