Do animals go to hell? I suppose the answer is going to be of course not they don’t have souls. If that’s the straightforward reason and answer then animals don’t go to heaven either. If no soul means no hell, no soul means no heaven. There’s no get-out clause no matter how much you love your pooch.

If animals don’t go to hell then personally I think I’d rather be an animal. A seagull perhaps. He doesn’t have such a bad life gliding about the place on a sunny cliff top. And he doesn’t even know he’s going to die and when he dies he doesn’t to hell.

***t I’d rather have been a seagull. Just my bad luck I was born with massive hell potential. :bighanky:

Animals don’t go anywhere. They have material souls which cease at death.

That is correct.

This seems to be a gross misunderstanding of the gift God has given to the human person, made in His image and likeness with intellect and will. What a shame.

I think you might find it interesting to read paragraphs 1042-1050 in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/__P2Q.HTM

Here are just two of those paragraphs:

**CCC 1047 **The visible universe, then, is itself destined to be transformed, “so that the world itself, restored to its original state, facing no further obstacles, should be at the service of the just,” sharing their glorification in the risen Jesus Christ.

**CCC 1048 **"We know neither the moment of the consummation of the earth and of man, nor the way in which the universe will be transformed. the form of this world, distorted by sin, is passing away, and we are taught that God is preparing a new dwelling and a new earth in which righteousness dwells, in which happiness will fill and surpass all the desires of peace arising in the hearts of men.

(I would think animals might be included as part of the “visible universe”.)

I am sometimes bemused at the fact many people don’t realize how remarkable the gift of eternal life is to all of us. You’re invited to Heaven and you will only be denied if you choose not to enter (unlike most other human institutions). Hell is your destiny if *you *choose to opt out.

Sure, but not necessarily the same animals that lived in this world.

Whereas, it’s the same human beings (us) that get our beings back.

Doesn’t the potential for life everlasting appeal to you?

You only get that as a human being.

Heads up, animals do have a soul. Soul in Latin is “anima”. An animal is a being with a soul.

It just isn’t the sort we come with, which has a cognitive mind as one of it’s propensities.

🙂 🙂 I agree. It really is a terror, the very concept of hell. I’m comforted to read this as I don’t feel as alone in feeling this way, but it’s sad because r shouldn’t let fear of hell control our lives.

I feel the universe would be very incomplete if animals were simply left out. It makes me smile to think of riding a horse in heaven. it simply must be so. xD
Well, the Book of Revelation seems to suggest such.

I think I’ll wait for Heaven to try riding horses, since we will have unbreakable bones then:)

Regarding the fear of Hell, God’s mercy is infinitely greater than our capacity for sin. Ask Him for the graces of final contrition and final perseverance and trust Him! He wants you to go to Heaven more than you do!

👍

animals do not have immortal souls.they can’t go either place no more than a tree.

Well, it will be the same human rational soul - but animals never had one of those to begin with.

But, when it comes to the resurrected body we will have, it really gets mysterious. The material elements of one’s human body are continually dying and being replaced. The body we have now is not the one we had several years ago. So, we just don’t know which physical matter - “body” - it is that will be resurrected.

Animal souls, altho not material in essence, are bound to the matter that constitutes their animal body. So it could be if/when that animal body is “transformed” (CCC #1047-1048; see Post #3) it will have the same animal soul that was present prior to its death; that is, the same soul that was bound to the physical matter that constituted its body.

P.S. I’m only putting this forth as my own speculation (except of course for what the Catechism says in #1047-1048). I wouldn’t want anyone to think I’m citing official Church teaching or something.
