I can’t say it does. What does count is a flick like The Clones of Bruce Lee or Bruce Lee, We Miss You.

I thought The Crow was pretty great when it first hit the theaters. I won’t speak ill of the dead, but I’ve read a few Lee biographies, and the reality of the man was quite different than what I’d originally imagined. And whether it’s true or not I don’t know, but I’ve met a couple people here in Seattle who were apparently his cronies back in the day. I have no idea if it’s true or not. All I know is, I find the whole reality of prostitution, cocaine and organized crime altogether depressing. Life is dark and precarious as it is - I don’t want any of that gloom in my life if I can possibly avoid it. But Brandon was by all accounts a decent man, and if he paid for his father’s sins, that just makes me like him all the more.

I’m sure I’ve seen one or two of these when I was kid and the local station would have Kung-Fu Theatre. Good times!

He had a ton of friends in Seattle and San Francisco. In Seattle’s International District/China Town, a lot of people remember him.

If you go for that sort of thing there is cable channel called El Rey. They show those movies 24/7.

Absolutely! The terrible dubbing gives those movies so much charm.

By the way, my absolute favorite of these movies is The Five Element Ninjas aka Chinese Super Ninjas.

I saw Five Element Ninjas several years ago. It wasn’t half-bad for what it was.

Jackie Chan starred as the new lead actor in New Fist Of Fury, which is the only film of his which technically counts as Bruceploitation given that it’s an official sequel to a Bruce Lee film(that Jackie was actually on the stunt team for!). It was meant to launch his career as “the next Bruce Lee” and contains none of his latter trademark comedy.

Somewhere along the line, I became familiar with a cohort of Bruce Lee, an instructor of Philippine Martial Arts. That must be Dan Inosanto who last I knew was still teaching in Southern California and has his own studio…

In the unfinished 1978 movie, Game of Death, Lee fights various martial arts masters. One of them is a Filipino-American. His real life student and close friend, Dan Inosanto, fights him using Kali, a weapons-based style of fighting from the Philippines.

I’d find it hard to think negative of Bruce, so little time on earth and he did so much.
