Do any Catholics still bless their bedrooms with Holy water before retiring to bed

I think you can bless an unmade bed (with you in it or otherwise). It probably needs it more!

I have sprinkled holy water around the room. but more often forget to use it and even let the font run dry. This thread is a good reminder!

I sprinkle my bed with Holy Water before I go to bed occasionally (and yes, I’m Italian-American, although I’m a young man and not an elderly woman). Sometimes I sprinkle my whole room. I plan to do so with some Epiphany water when Epiphany comes around.

I also use Holy Water before I pray my morning and evening prayers.

There’s a container of Holy Water in the vestibule at my parish, and so I stock up on it as needed.

One thing I’ve always been curious about, how does one used Blessed Salt?

What’s Epiphany water, Paxvobis?

Epiphany water is blessed on either Epiphany or it’s vigil and is used to sprinkle your home with on Epiphany. The sprinkling of the home with Holy Water on Epiphany is meant to recall Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan which we celebrate. You can find more info here.

We have Holy Water on the family altar in the house, but I hadn’t tried blessing beds. I think I will because my 3 1/2 year old has been having horrible nightmares for a few months! I just ordered a pretty Our Lady of Grace font for her room, because I think that will help us remember each night and might make her feel a bit better too. I’m so grateful for this thread!

This is something I remember my Great Grandmother doing, she was from Ireland was a devout Catholic.

Yes I do. In fact I do it about once every two months… not specific time frame, just when I think about it. We also have a prayer corner prominent in the living/dining/kitchen room for all to see.

Whatever you want really … you can start with, In the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit as an example, or you can address say Mary, as I do, and ask her to use the precious drops to help the souls in purgetory. I adress a different group of souls every day, the youngest, most forgotten, most abused, Our Mothers favored, the souls I love, etc.

What do you say as you bless the object with Holy Water?

We lay people can’t bless things (other than food and our children). We can pray to God asking him to bless something. Priests, on the other hand, can definitively bless things (like water, rosaries, et cetera).

When I sprinkle my bed with Holy Water, I usually pray a St. Michael prayer or the Asperges Me.

When I bless myself with Holy Water, the prayer I often say is: “Lord Jesus, by the power of your precious blood, and by this holy water, please wipe away all my sins and assist the souls in purgatory, Amen”. I amy vary the words sometimes according to the need but holy water always brings me some comfort in whatever trouble is facing me at that moment.
