Why? A rich prayer life can include both.I don’t think it is False Doctrine but it is basically saying the Act of Contrition is not good enough for us…

Spare me…reread the post.My protestant brothers and sisters, you might as well give up, the Catholics think they have the answers to everything and will only believe what is taught to them in a very structured manner that also includes many man made prayers that are not in the Bible either.
The Catholic Church believes they have the “truths” of Christianity and I say to that, Jesus says He is the Truth so doesnt that mean we all have the Truth? We all love Jesus and strive to do his will. The Catholics are still upset that we left them centuries ago. They will never get over it and will always bash protestant beliefs saying they arent from God.

OSAS is not a “Protestant dogma.” I don’t believe it and neither do at least half the protestants on earth today. I might buy that argument IF the only people who say the sinners prayer also believe in OSAS but that isn’t the case.I think I understand what Righteousone is saying, (good point) he may be pointing out that the sinners prayer is against the Protestant dogma of once saved always saved, so why pray for forgiveness of sins, Would that not be babbling like pagans Mt 6:7.
You do not understand Protestants, whether you agree with them or not is irrelevent, you fundamentally do not understand. First of all, you should know, that many Christians do not believe in Once saved always saved and you also have to know that those who do believe the Bible know that it says for us to do that. IE ask for forgiveness of sinsI think I understand what Righteousone is saying, (good point) he may be pointing out that the sinners prayer is against the Protestant dogma of once saved always saved, so why pray for forgiveness of sins, Would that not be babbling like pagans Mt 6:7.
Of course Protestants believe in it, and unless it is taken in itself alone, it is not “false doctrine.” Responsible protestants do not claim that it is a one-day-wonder prayer. The “Sinner’s Prayer” is not in the Bible and won’t save you. It is a false Doctrine that developed from Calvinism and was first practiced less than 50 years ago. What say you?
As a Catholic, I find this statement embarrassing. Without elaborating, since both Catholics and Protestants on this thread have already covered the territory, your statement Righteousone, is absolutely incorrect.Problem being it is a FALSE doctrine. Simple.
In the light of what Jesus said, I’d rather say the sinners prayer than that..
Thank you Lord for my faith in the truth…![]()
The prayer itself is not false doctrine. It is not necessary to believe in OSAS to say the prayer. An act of contrition contains no false doctrine in and of itself.Problem being it is a FALSE doctrine. Simple.
There is no standard formula for the Act of Contrition either. Many Catholics use different forms in Confession. The priest says make an act of contrition, not make **the **act of contrition.I don’t think it is False Doctrine but it is basically saying the Act of Contrition is not good enough for us, we need to come up with our own way. Which to me is why protestants don’t like the Catholic Church, they are stuck on individualism and being there own person.
The belief system you are describing is not found in the actual words of the sinner’s prayer. One cannot blame the prayer itself for any kind of belief system.C.S. Lewis used the term “a great cataract of nonsense”, to describe how people use a modern idea to construe Bible theology.
Lewis used this term to describe what happens when someone looks backward at the Bible based only on what he/she has known.
Millions hold to a belief system and Salvation practice that no one had EVER held until recently.
The notion that one can pray Jesus into his/her heart and that Baptism is merely an outward sign are actually late developments.
Thank you Lord for my faith in the truth…![]()
You find it embarrassing because as a Catholic, your not doing your research, nor do you know much about this “Sinners Prayer”. Before you become “embarrassed” again, (I am embarrassed as a Catholic you do not know about this), do your research…As a Catholic, I find this statement embarrassing. Without elaborating, since both Catholics and Protestants on this thread have already covered the territory, your statement Righteousone, is absolutely incorrect.
I am speaking *ex cathedra. *
Please don’t compare this False Doctrine to an Act of contrition or any Catholic prayer. Most if not all our prayers come from the Bible. The Sinners Prayer associates with something else. The prayer itself is not false doctrine. It is not necessary to believe in OSAS to say the prayer. An act of contrition contains no false doctrine in and of itself.
Show me the “false doctrine” in the words of the Sinner’s Prayer. There is nothing in the prayer itself that is contrary to Catholic belief. Please don’t compare this False Doctrine to an Act of contrition or any Catholic prayer. Reread my posts. why do I always have to repeat myself? That is why I started the thread about Protestants questioning everything, even though I’ve already given the answers…Lord give me strength.Show me the “false doctrine” in the words of the Sinner’s Prayer. You did not provide any false doctrine found within the words of the actual prayer. I am still waiting for an answer from you.Reread my posts. why do I always have to repeat myself? I though the majority of non-Catholics believe in OSAS, my apologies. It’s good to see that we have about half of the non-Catholics closer together with usOSAS is not a “Protestant dogma.” I don’t believe it and neither do at least half the protestants on earth today. I might buy that argument IF the only people who say the sinners prayer also believe in OSAS but that isn’t the case.
