We pay our taxes, the government chooses how to disburse them. Now the government is forcing Catholic institutions to pay more directly, by requiring that all health insurance polcies include these immoral practices with no co-pay.

Here again is one of those damned if you do, damned if you don’t arguments: when the Church “tolerated” (in the true sense of the word, putting up with as fighting would cause a worse problem) the provisions for abc, choosing to focus resources on the evil of killing unborn babies. But now that the situation is changing, our previous " lack of trouble-making" is held up as a reason for us to put up and shut up?

And his so-called solution is ridiculous. No health insurance company would write a policy like that, esp considering that some of the employees involved are not Catholic.

Note, also, that his premises are faulty. The ruling forces Catholic institutions (made up of employees who may or may not be Catholics, and who serve people who may or may not be Catholics) to pay the premiums of these plans, which include free access to contraceptives and abortifacients. Therefore, since the Church serves and hires non-Catholics, it’s invalid to assert that Catholic institutions will never pay for these services. (And, here’s the kicker: if the institutions were to base hiring decisions on religious affiliation, the government would come down like a ton of bricks on them, since they don’t fit the (new) definition of religious organization.)

Moreover, the notion that the Church hasn’t been lobbying for regulations that allow for acceptable conscience clauses is hogwash. Some groups, bearing the name “Catholic”, may have been in – hook, line, and sinker – but the Church, and the bishops’ conference, has constantly taken stands that defend both access to health care and the need to allow folks to follow their religious convictions.

Indeed. One wonders… Where is the ACLU now? 😉 la da ti dum ti da…

Rather curious eh?

The complainer (Karl Denninger) is not concerned with truth.

The fact remains that the Catholic Church will be forced to pay for abortions and birth control under Obamacare. Even if it is true that in paying taxes Catholics already pay for such services that does not invalidate the argument.

Hypocrisy does not invalidate an argument.

It is true that taxes are paid to the government and the government does pay for people to have abortions and pay for birth control. But there is no direct link between the two. With insurance there is a much closer connection between what you pay and what you get. I’m pretty sure that insurance plans that include abortions, birth control, morning after pills, etc. will be more expensive than plans which do not. If the government did not pay for such services under Medicaid then your taxes would not change at all.
