Do Catholic priests have the authority to forgive sins on earth?

IIf you are going to claim Mary was “saved” in a “SPECIAL WAY”, then you must be able to prove that from Scripture otherwise you are reaching for some authority that is fictitious.
But first you are going to have to prove from Scripture that we must prove all of our beliefs from Scripture alone.

Chapter and verse, please!

You’d have to ask Jesus Christ about that.

So why did Enoch and Elijah not die? Are they not sinners? If they were sinners, how were their sins forgiven? If their sins were forgiven the way you say yours were, does that mean you will never die?
Careful study is necessary in discerning Scripture; otherwise you will reach a conclusion that contradicts Scripture and that is impossible. “”**No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. ** " John 3:13. Does it say they did not die; does it really say that? If it does, then John 3:13 and a couple other passages are in direct contradiction. So you must study carefully as not to be careless in handling the word of God. Here is a good start to get a good understanding.
Enoch and Elijah
You mean “moot.”
God hates pride and loves humility; He destroys the proud and exalts the humble. “Teach me your ways Lord and I will live by your truth.”
Again, you reference Mary’s declaration that Jesus is Her Savior. The Church agrees with that statement (and the rest of the Bible) 100%. The difference is HOW She was saved. Why don’t you help us get back on topic and explain how peoples’ sins are forgiven?
Did Mary go to a preincarnate Catholic priest and have her sins forgiven in some miraculous way? Is this a possibility or something similar aand unmistakable in Scripture? I have read it several dozen times and seem to keep missing these aspects of Scripture such as any Apostle, disciple, or anyone else going to a priest to confess and be absolved. I can’t even find a priest that resembles a Catholic priest; there are some Pharisees and Scribes that seem very similar; perhaps this is what you are referring to? Help me here so I can learn from you about the Word of God. You are obviously very well trained in the knowledge of Scripture and the traditions of the Catholic Church; you make others seem inferior in that sense; no disrespect to the other Catholics because they can learn from you like I hope to, but you are far more cathechized and Scripturalized than all the others on this site. Not even David or MoonDweller possess the Scriptural knowledge you have; they are actually envious of you and are afraid to admit it, but I am not.

Indeed. God hates pride, Jenny. And loves humility. Before pointing out the pride in others one ought to take the log out of her own eye.

No. That’s silly! The CC teaches that she was saved from sin so there was no need to to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. To wit: she was reconciled to Him from the very moment of her conception.

Sarcasm is the protest of the weak, Jenny.

Well, of course. The Catholic Church believes Mary was saved from sin.
Well, if this is a literal “all”, then that would mean tiny babes have sinned. And those with Down syndrome. Indeed, if this is a literal “all” that would mean Jesus sinned as well.
So the all is not everyone who is accountable to which the Scripture is addressing? Which you know what the All is; you are being sarcastic which is fine; pride is what God always looks for in a Christian.

Jesus was not a sinner but what does the Scripture say? He was made sin; it is the atoning work that you do not understand, which is why you have to go to a priest and why you have to worship some jesus in a Monstrance to keep cleansing you from sin even though God has said that All sins have been forgiven for those who are in Christ Jesus and Jesus said IT IS FINISHED, what was FINISHED? He also said He is sitting at the right hand of the Father to make intercession and to wait for His Father to make all His enemies His footstool. Shall we ignore all this in favor of what is not in Scripture? I cannot.
So a Catholic can easily refute the atheist or the non-Christian. But you have no response to this argument posed by them. :sad_yes:
God rebukes you and the argument by His word as I have shown above. 😃

Right back at 'cha, Jenny!
Jesus was not a sinner but what does the Scripture say? He was made sin;
Yes, this is very Catholic of you to say this!

You have no idea what I understand about the atoning work of Christ.
He also said He is sitting at the right hand of the Father to make intercession and to wait for His Father to make all His enemies His footstool. Shall we ignore all this in favor of what is not in Scripture? I cannot.
Again, you are very Catholic when you state this. 👍

Was I speaking of you; your conscience must be convicting you; I’m not.
No. That’s silly! The CC teaches that she was saved from sin so there was no need to to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. To wit: she was reconciled to Him from the very moment of her conception.
So where exactly in Scripture does it show she needed a Savior, but in a different and unique way apart from all other sinners?
Sarcasm is the protest of the weak, Jenny.
I guess you would know more about that than I would.

Was I speaking of you; your conscience must be convicting you; I’m not.
In the CAFs one is allowed to respond to all posts. That is simply the way it works here!
So where exactly in Scripture does it show she needed a Savior, but in a different and unique way apart from all other sinners?
Why do I have to submit to your man-made tradition on this?

Right back at 'cha, Jenny!

Yes, this is very Catholic of you to say this!

You have no idea what I understand about the atoning work of Christ.

Again, you are very Catholic when you state this. 👍
Since you are not willing to actually answer questions; let us make a deal. I won’t post to you and you don’t post to me. Deal? This way I stay out of trouble with the Lord. 👍

I will continue to respond to your posts, Jenny, because you need to hear the Truth. However, these posts are not just for you but for the many lurkers who are also enjoying this dialogue.

And saying that your deal keeps you “out of trouble with the Lord” is quite curious. Is this evidence of the great hostility you’re feeling towards Catholics? You understand that God is not pleased with this?

I just wanted to throw this out there, since I seem to fall prey to this quite often and it seems to be going on at the moment here.

[BIBLEDRB]Sirach 8:4-5[/BIBLEDRB]

Just my $.02 👍

Does it say they did not die; does it really say that?
[BIBLEDRB]Matthew 17:1-8[/BIBLEDRB]

Are you really going to tell me that Jesus is talking to a dead man?
If it does, then John 3:13 and a couple other passages are in direct contradiction.
Really?

[BIBLEDRB]John 3:13[/BIBLEDRB]

That’s true; Enoch, Elijah and Mary did not ascend into heaven through their own power. They were ASSUMED, raptured, pulled up by the power of God. If you deny that people can be raptured, then have fun dealing with all the pre-trib rapturists.*
Here is a good start to get a good understanding.
Enoch and Elijah
That website also says that there is no hell. Meanwhile, the Bible says:

[BIBLEDRB]Luke 16:19-31[/BIBLEDRB]
Not even David or MoonDweller possess the Scriptural knowledge you have; they are actually envious of you and are afraid to admit it, but I am not.
Good. I do not want to be envied. That is not why I am here.

So where exactly in Scripture does it show she needed a Savior, but in a different and unique way apart from all other sinners?
I’ve asked you this for a while now… How do you say that “all other sinners” are saved?

Read the Bible and you might find that to be true.👍

Not according to my God.

“Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?” Mark 2:7

“But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” - Mark 2:10

The scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, “Who is this {man} who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?” - Luke 5:21

Not according to my God.

[BIBLEDRB]Matthew 9:8[/BIBLEDRB]

To MEN, plural—not only Jesus but those who exercise His authority by the Holy Spirit.

[BIBLEDRB]John 20:22-23[/BIBLEDRB]

Like Paul.

[BIBLEDRB]2 Corinthians 2:10[/BIBLEDRB]

And the elders of the Church.

[BIBLEDRB]James 5:14-16[/BIBLEDRB]

So, when are you going to answer my question and tell us how peoples’ sins are forgiven?

Are you really going to tell me that Jesus is talking to a dead man?

"No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man. - John 3:13

Why do you do not believe what the Lord said in John 3:13? Don’t say you do when you just rebuked the words of Jesus that are very clear.

Think about this, david. You are proposing that one could be in this person’s shoes *but have no idea. *

This person could be you.
Absolutely and vice -versa.We do not know each other enough to say otherwise , but the question we must ask of ourselves and others ,Am I saved ? Do I really Know the Lord Jesus ? Do I know with certainty if I were to die tonight ,I would be found acceptable before the Father ? Has He born witness to my spirit that indeed I am His and no one can pluck me out of his hand ? Have we been regenerated , born again , where all things become new ?

Jenny,
Do you believe that Peter and Paul worked miracles?

Do you think Peter and Paul wrote the inspired words of God?

Do you think Moses wrote the Torah?

Clearly, my point is that which you attribute to these holy men, you can also attribute to God.

Same with the Sacrament of Confession. 🤷
I like the progression , but then we must assume that indeed this sacrament is on par with miracles ,and being a biblical writer(inspired).I can not think of a real good example of apostolic absolution ,apart from the gospel preached /faith /baptism or forgiveness for a personal fault towards an apostle. There are more examples of miracles and divine inspired writings than Apostles acting as personal Confessors.

[BIBLEDRB]2 Cor 2:10[/BIBLEDRB]
I believe this is forgiveness for a personal slight (sin)against Paul and his ministry , not as personal Confessor.Otherwise a great scripture that almost fits your dogma.
