Do Catholic schools evangelize to their non-catholic students?

I can only speak for the catholic school my kids go to, but not only do they have mandatory religious Ed, everything is taught from a catholic perspective. Spelling words, math problems, handwriting etc. it is all church based. It is a wonderful way for my children to be immersed in faith 🙂
This was my experience as a teacher in Catholic Schools. At the Catholic University is was required to have 2 semesters of Philosophy and 2 semesters of Theology.

At our girls’ school, RE and Mass are mandatory for all students. There’s always at least 2-3 formerly non-Catholic students entering the Church during Lent each year. I know that’s not the case at every parish around here. My parents’ parish, which is really struggling, especially when it comes to bringing in new parishioners and holding onto the younger ones they have, does not require their non-Catholic students to attend Mass (I’m not sure about the RE). They also don’t require their students to attend Mass in order to keep the parishioner tuition rate. I think those two things would at least be a start to turning their fortunes around.

I looked up, for another thread, and 16% of Catholic school students are non-catholics. This percentage is increasing year by year.

My impression is that the schools steer clear of evangelizing, but I am unsure.

Do they? Should they? For statistics click below.

I attended a Catholic school as a non-Catholic student. I was bullied in the public schools and my parents and I chose this school as an alternative (this was before schools of choice and charter schools).

Like all the other students, I was required to attend Theology classes and school Masses.

I did not feel that the school was in the business of evangelization. In my senior year I decided on my own to become a Catholic. My theology teacher advised me to wait until I entered college, to make sure I was certain of my decision. I did.
