Do catholics believe previous lives exist

But this to someone who believes in the supernatural and preternatural, then it is rational to the extent of comprehension. To me there is nothing more rational than the sacraments of Christ thus His Church
The belief in the supernatural is by very definition irrational. The sacraments are far from being rational, that is why they are considered mysteries, the exceed human rationality to explain. In fact the very word sacrament translates from the Greek word for mystery. That is the entire point of it. I am perfectly fine with this and it does not bother me in the least, what I don’t understand is why Christians want to try to explain away the mysteries of God with the wisdom of man.

It’s interesting to see people talk about facts when documentation of jesus’s existence come from 3 separate belief systems - christian, jewish and pagan. The fact that there are loads of documentation of jesus’s existence in the vatican archives and none which established scholarly scientists have can prove beyond reasonable doubt that many scholars of enlightenment want to wipe out the evidence of jesus’s existence completely.

But it’s interesting the amount of absurdities in scholarly and scientific facts, scientific theories and facts that prove the supernatural, facts that cancel each other out (how can a fact cancel another fact out when it is scientific) and phenomina that is known but buried, also remember, these days, a fact is only a fact when the establishment classifies it as a fact - there are a lot of proven facts that never get upheld by the people that uphold them.

Personal experience, although not a testimony, is another way of knowing whether something is a fact if you can cut through what is brain trickery or not. The holy sacraments work, communion is my personal evidence because i experience the power it has.

Think about this:

The marble theory - a well known explanation of the universe, how can something be infinate when science says there is a beginning middle and end - if that is true, is there a wall at the end of the universe, if so what is behind the wall, everything comes to an end, if that is true how come energy cannot be created or destroyed. If the universe is a marble then what is looking at it.

The chaos theory: We are brought up to believe that every action has an equal and opposite reaction - this proves this theory to be a lot of balony, if things accelerate or continue endlessly the same rules of physics do not apply.

Astral Projection: Souls could be made up of energy, how can someone experience the sense of floating when they are awake and sitting down on a chair.

The preshistoric computer - it proves that the age of enlightenment was around a lot longer than science.

There are many religious documents proving sources of the universe written many hundreds if not a thousand years ago that science is nicking its stuff from science still hasn’t caught up with this or maybe it’s not admitting that these accounts are facts.

I think that people should take all these things into account before they dismiss the testimonies of Jesus Christ’s existence out of hand.

Umm, no one in this thread is trying to argue Jesus out of existence. I think that is one thing we all here pretty much agree upon. What we disagree about is how strong that evidence is and what exactly that evidence can conclusively prove. I absolutely believe in the existence of Jesus and the sacraments, I also experience their truth from personal experience. I also don’t really need conclusive historical/factual proof, to prove to me that my belief is warranted, I actually think it shows a lack of faith to need or even demand such proof. Again I do not dispute that there is historical evidence for Jesus, or even the Gospel stories, I just dispute what exactly that evidence can demonstrate factually. I can not even understand high level calculus and advanced level physics, how in the world am I supposed to understand and comprehend the mysteries of God itself.

Of course, I’m not a scientist or even a well read person of science but I’ve seen good demonstrations of some of these theories and I believe that physics etc can be contradictory and may sometimes prove god’s existence. As for astral projection, I’ve experienced it uninvitedly, floating out of my body but I do not seek it, never been into the occult.

I too have experienced astral travel, I have also experienced other supernatural events including the presence and existence of the demonic. I have also directly experienced the presence of the Divine so I am a firm believer in the supernatural. As said best my Shakespeare, “There is more in heaven and earth dear Horatio, than those that are dreamt in your philosophy.”

There is a danger in thinking that any need of proof shows a lack of faith. For you the level of proof needed is those experiences of truth you received through personal experience. For me it’s my personal experiences and how the teachings of the Church form together in a cohesive and logical whole to, for me, does a great deal to explain the question “why?”. For others the necessary level may well be some sort of physical evidence. Needing such proof isn’t a sign of lack of faith, but a sign that the level of proof each of us needs is unique. The lack of faith part enters the picture when the individual is presented or has their necessary level of proof to believe, but they decide instead to continue to disbelieve.

Gorgias:
By definition, then, there’s no possibility that Jesus may not agree with the magisterium"!
Good luck!
What do I need ‘luck’ for…? I have Jesus’ own words to rely on! 👍

I did not state any degree of proof, I am arguing against people who want conclusive amounts of proof, or try to argue that they can prove their faith conclusively. If it was conclusive, it would not require faith. Sorry for any confusion and I am actually in agreement with you…

Hi there, thanks for all your responses it’s a busy thread.

I have a lot of things I can reflect on by looking at these posts. Just if I could ask a favour, could you please delete the scientific theory references I posted on the forum? Also tomberg, if you could delete the multiquote of the scientific theory references please I would really appreciate it. I wouldn’t want to provoke an angry response from scientists. Thanks in advance.

Aquinas disagrees, the existence of God is completely rational and common sense shows us. First principle. first mover. [Summa] If there was no first mover, nothing would be in motion. Prime mover is not movable. Second a thing cannot be an efficient cause of itself.

Just to get straight to the point. Catholics believe that their soul are heaven or hell bound after they die. Are previous lives something that exists in the catholic faith?
No, it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this the judgment (Heb 9:27). The soul is created when a child is conceived, there is no previous life.

If by some remotely remote chance I get another life on this blue planet,
Could I maybe put in just one little request ?
Could I take the lessons learned thus far with me ?
I really don’t want to go through the learning process again !

Your request will definitely be granted. The soul remembers all your lives and the lessons learnt in all of them. It is just the human brain which does not remember past lives. However, if you don’t learn some lesson properly you may have to repeat it.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Just to get straight to the point. Catholics believe that their soul are heaven or hell bound after they die, if there is only two destinations for one’s soul why do so many people believe in previous lives. I have had messages and personal evidence spiritually that I have been people in previous lives - what are catholics stance on this. Are previous lives something that exists in the catholic faith?

Any answers on this would be very much appreciated.

Kind Regards
I have not read all the posts in this thread so I’m not sure if anyone else has written this or not. I do not believe in reincarnation because we only have one life. If we are tempted to find other answers for our lives we begin to flirt with things that the Enemy will use to pull us away from the saving grace of our Lord. We must remember that the forces of evil are definitely at work in our world and he plans to take down as many with him as possible. Test the spirits Paul tells us…Stay in the Word and He will bring you to the understanding of Truth…

Amen! We have Divine Revelation!

We need to pray for and love all those who do not yet know our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus’ Precious Blood is enough for one life.

One cannot simultaneously believe in the resurrection and reincarnation. They are conflicting propositions.

You could believe in the resurrection of the Christ and reincarnation for the rest of us couldn’t you? At least I do.

The idea of the resurrection of the body for ordinary human beings always seemed a bit strange to me. Did Jesus ever mention such a thing in the bible?
