Do Catholics give Mary too high esteem?

But you can ask of the Saints anything that you might ask your dearest friends on earth for. Remember - they love you and they desire your happiness. Worship only God, but go ahead and petition the Saints for anything. It is not “worship” to ask favours from people. 🙂

The saints don’t “grant” the request, they simply pray for us about it, if it is God’s Will. God Bless., Memaw

The Holy Bible concerns the Lord and His church on earth and the church in heaven, not about Mary.Mary signifies the church after the Lord rose from death. he church is called moher. In that sense, she is the mother

Lets don’t forget, there would be no Savior, no Seed, to crush the serpents head, if it weren’t for “The Women” who gave birth to Our Lord. And there would be no Church if Jesus hadn’t been born to start it. She is our Mother too as she is the New Eve, Mother of all. Every Catholic should know that Mary is The Woman. Our Lord referred to her as The Women more than once, she is the Women of Faith. and the Church is our Mother also. The two are inseparable. God Bless, Memaw

And… she’s one of us… fully human… I know, I know Jesus is fully human, but he is also fully divine and it’s a mystery… (He’s still fully human but there’s kind of an asterisk)… but Mary is truly fully human… who more can relate to us… who more can understand us… empathize with us… care for us… and everything else many posters have already stated… she is the Mother of the Word Incarnate… do you listen to your mother… it’s obvious, through much historical documentation, that Jesus listens to his Mother… Thank God and God Bless…

All they ask in return is a little gratitude, respect and love… but we will argue day in and day out about it… often with a lack of gratitude, respect and love… It’s amazing… astounding… and altogether very painful for all… yet they keep on, keep fighting, keep defending, keep begging and pleading for souls… how truly lucky we are and grateful we should be… surrender or die…
 
The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Ark of the New Covenant. She is worthy of “hyperdulia”. She is not equal with God but is the pinnacle of the merely human… the New Eve, who did not sin.

Starting at 16:00, he tells the story of how he was speaking with a Catholic woman who uplifted Mary very high, and this Catholic woman could not refute him when he used verse John 1 against her.

Instead of using Luke 1 ("Blessed are you among women . . . ") as defense, how can you make a strong biblical defense against his argument?

I followed the link, downloaded the video, and went to 16:00. It was not as you state. I listened to 19:00+ and it was not about Mary.

Marian doctrine of the Catholic Church was developed by theologians. They saw how important Mary was, by looking at who Jesus is.

If you read the account of the annunciation in Luke, you read that Mary was “blessed” among women – well, among men, too, but they don’t count in becoming the mother of Jesus.

Mary says “all generations shall call me blessed” – and do we? Catholics do.

The Church teaches that Mary was sinless, and so was a creature greater than all others, and next only to God. (This is theology.)

Check the two books at Amazon on Mary by Fr. Luigi Gambero. He discusses the development of the doctrines (teachings) about Mary over the centuries. In these two books, the various theologians rake over the same scriptures, again and again, to come up with these statements of praise for Mary. One of them says it is impossible to give Mary too much devotion.

Some make statements putting Mary dangerously close to being on the same level as Jesus.

They say over and over, that all graces come through Mary (not from Mary, by the way).

Mary is the spiritual mother of all Christians. She is constantly interceding for us. But, if we have sincere and loving devotion to her, she seems to be closer to such believers.

Sometimes the seeming excesses of thought about Mary come to my mind, but there is often an explanation for any statement.

I could go on and on – get the books. Jews mock Christian beliefs about Mary, beginning with the virgin birth – dispute over Is 7:14. Mary’s virginity is one of the oldest doctrines about Mary. we have to agree to disagree.
