If God is not real, if Christ is not raised than I am the most pitable of people.
There is no doubt in my mind that God exists. What is often in doubt is my willingness to receive and maintain that faith which He has given me by Grace. He exists, but sometimes my sinfulness wants to ignore Him. It is then that the means of grace, word and sacrament, renew and strengthen my faith.Beliefs aside, do you acknowledge that religion, when it comes down to it, is faith? I’m not saying faith is a bad thing - in fact, I encourage it, because I do feel that the right dose of religion can instill good morals and many believers are indeed very good people. I’d like to believe there’s a god, but to me it seems silly to not acknowledge that there’s no true way for ANYONE to know. Otherwise, why would people debate day in and day out on this issue?
So, do you?
I’m not going to bother attempting to follow the progress of the thread thus far, or fit my post into whatever stream it has taken thus far. I’ll just provide my answer to the title of this thread, which I think is a better one than the one posited in the text of your original post. First, I can’t speak to what Christians as a whole do. Myself, yes, I acknowledge that it is possible that all my beliefs and my faith are wrong. I acknowledge this in the same way that I acknowledge the possibility that gravity is an illusion, that my perception of space-time is a fraud, that I may just be a brain sitting in a jar somewhere being subjected to a fantasy world. All possible, but I don’t believe a word of it and think that it would be nonsense to do so.Beliefs aside, do you acknowledge that religion, when it comes down to it, is faith? That is also an absolute truth., or think that medium rare is the only way to properly enjoy a good steak.

No, life is impossible without a creator. Now, the God known from the Christian Bible seems the likeliest candidate to me, based on the preponderance of evidence. The disciples really believed in the Resurrection b/c they had SEEN Him after His death. All but one was martyred, according to historical accounts, I've heard. There are times when I feel that God is closer than other times, but I always believe. Great question. :D Rob
