Do Christian believe in the same God Jesus did?
Sounds like a silly question doesn’t it. But it comes out of some of the “proofs” I’ve seen about why Christians don’t believe in the same God that Muslims believe in. You see that argument goes something like:
Christians believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Muslims don’t. Therefore we must believe in different gods.
Well, Jews don’t believe in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit any more than Muslim do. Therefore the God that Jews worship must not be the same God that Christians worship. The Jews today worship the same God thay have since the time of Abraham, and Jesus worshipped this same God that the Jews of his day worshipped. Therefore, Jesus must have worshipped a differnt God than Christians worshipped.
Now, if you think there is something wrong with my logic above, isn’t there also something wrong with the logic when applied to Muslims who claim to worship the same God that Abraham worshipped that the Jews worship. So, if the Muslims and the Jews and Jesus all worshipped the same God, the God of Abraham, and if Christian worship the same God that Jesus worshipped. It seems to me that perhaps Christians worship the same God that Muslims do after all. The difference is that because we know Jesus, just as we know God more fully than do Jews, so also we know God more fully than do Muslims. But it is still the same God no matter which of the Abrahamic faiths you belong to.
