Kind of unbelievable that the U.S. Government’s Office of Human Rights says it has to spend 6 months investigating this.

In fairness, this sounds like something that is being pursued by a non-Muslim, radically anti-Catholic law professor as well as Muslim students.

How far should an officially Catholic university go in accomodating the wishes of other religions?

Considering that there are Muslim countries where churches aren’t even allowed to be built, I’d say that’s pretty ironic…

Give me a break! I saw that on Fox News last night and just about had a stroke! I also watched Fox this morning and the Muslim doctor that is a contributor to Fox News… can’t remember his name… but he actually made sense… the other guy was just babbling. The other guy was leaning more towards the radical muslims… the one’s that are NOT all about peace. I just want to scream… but know that I must remain patient, stay strong… and above all… pray without ceasing!

They chose to go to a school called CATHOLIC University. The school’s simple display of their religious symbols doesn’t violate anyone’s rights. There was a Muslim girl I was friends with at my catholic high school. She attended mass with the class when we went, but didn’t receive communion for obvious reasons. It was expected that she sit through mass and religion class and she didn’t mind that at all, because our academic records blew the local public school’s out of the water and there was no Muslim school near by. The students at Catholic aren’t even required to go to mass, although, if I remember correctly, there is a theology core requirement, though even that can be filled by taking something such as world religions or study of Islam. This is ridiculous. Now, if students were required to be Catholic to attend, the lawyer might have a leg to stand on.

There is no right, certainly not a “human right”, to not be exposed to somebody else’s beliefs, especially in a society where one’s own beliefs are not the majority.

Pray that they get a judge who will throw this one on the street where it belongs!

This is why Humanism is rubbish - it sounds good, but it’s self contradictory!
HH Pope Benedict made an excellent lecture on the contradiction of ‘freedom’ in the modern conscious: here
I think the actual irony is, in Islamic law the university would be protected and run completely under the clergy and or Catholic academics with no interference. Muslims would not be allowed to attend too. So hows that for a reality check on the modern world

Funny fox news took the story

Perhaps somebody should start another “Why don’t Catholics trust muslims?” thread and get to the bottom of this.

There are questions that were not answered in my review of the subject. Is there any government funding in the school that this is a controversy? If there is no government funding and it is totally private then the decision is free choice. Those that attend have a right to choose to attend or not. This then boils down to making noise.

If this is a totally private institution then Brigham Young would be subject to the same discrimination problem if BYU were totally private. It suggests that activists may be targeting private institutions for this purpose.

This is a little derogatory. You may want to reframe that as Does Islam teach Muslims to be trustworthy…

No, they do not violate Muslim human rights. A private Catholic school has every right to use the Cross anywhere. This is so silly and laughable. Seriously, what’s next?

Yeah the vast majority of Muslims have unfairly been branded with a terrorist, fanatical sterotype. I guess the world is always looking for an enemy to blame. I have been all over the world and many people think the USA is a menace. I suppose it depends who you ask.

Any decent private school will still have their hand in the Govt cookie jar, be it only for research grants etc.

I despise this approach. Like when they complained about a war memorial on Govt park land that had a cross.

Penn & Teller have a good segment on the problems with PC on universities. I like them, though they be rabid athiests

Communism is islam without allah, islam is a religion (e.g. Christianity) without a theology. Strange how when they take Jesus Christ out the picture it all the seems the same.

I encourage everyone to read the Quran and hadith.

We need to pray for Muslims- they are in a cult of death that would kill them if they tried to leave it.

  1. *]Would stars of David at a Jewish University violate Gentile rights?
*]Would icons of Theotokos at a Eastern Orthodox/Eastern Catholic/Oriental Orthodox university violate Western Christians’ rights?
*]Would the Angel Moroni at a Mormon University violate Non-Mormon rights?
*]Would a statue of Buddha at a Buddhist university violate Non-Buddhists rights?
*]Would an “aum/om” symbol at a Hindu university violate Non-Hindu rights?

No? So why are these people picking on Catholics?

I hate how crazy and intolerant extremists give people the wrong impressions cool and normal Muslims

    God bless :byzsoc:
