Do dogs and other animals go to heaven?

On a retreat, someone brought up an interesting question. Will they see their dog in Heaven? Father replied “No, because they have no soul and therefore couldn’t go to heaven.”

What do you think? Do animals go to heaven? If they don’t go to heaven where do they go?
