Do EMHCs have to ensure communicants are properly disposed?

A transvestite comes in late and leaves early to daily Mass and Sunday Mass. I’m not sure if this person ever hears the readings but always receives Communion and usually under both species, even to the point of nearly draining the cup even when others are still waiting to receive.

I know the priests are aware of this person, but as an EMHC I wonder if I have a responsibility to find out if said person is appropriately disposed to receive the Eucharist. Though a moderate parish, our priests tend to be on the liberal side and would not welcome such inquiries without thinking me “judgmental” and out of my realm.

Under ordinary circumstances, an EMHC should presume that each communicant has examined his or her own conscience and should not presume to ask if a particular communicant is properly disposed. What is properly your concern is this person’s lack of courtesy in depriving others of an opportunity to receive from the cup when the precious blood is offered to the communicants. I recommend reporting either to the head of the EMHCs or to the pastor that this person is causing a problem in the Communion lines by what we may hope is a lack of knowledge that only a sip of the precious blood should be received. If this person comes to daily and Sunday Mass, then mention of proper Communion protocol at the end of a homily may be all that is necessary to resolve the problem.
