SteveLY, the ALC was the American Lutheran Church, one of the predecessor bodies of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It combined with the Lutheran Church in America. Most of the Lutheran bodies were based on national background. Its followers were largely in the upper Midwest and came from Germany and Scandanavia. Theologically it was influenced by German Pietism. It ordained the first woman as a pastor in 1970. It also ordained the first native American woman. There continues to be a clause in the ELCA charter that recognizes the difference between the ALC and the LCA in that the ownership of church property was handled differently in the two bodies. If this doesn’t confuse you, you are a better man than I.
