Do everything for love of God

“You shall love the Lord, your God, with your entire heart, with your entire strength, with your entire being, and with your entire mind.”

This was part of the Gospel reading on Sunday, and it brought to mind something that I think of often, but can never really quite understand.

I understand that we are to love God in all things and that we should do everything (work, school, driving, etc) for the love of God. The idear makes sense.

But how do you do this?

How is working in the garden glorifying God? How is my working behind a cash register an action that can be done for love of God?

Maybe I’m just being dense, but I don’t get it.

How is working in the garden glorifying God? How is my working behind a cash register an action that can be done for love of God?

Let’s take the two questions above as an example of one might perform the task for love of God.

**1- How is working in the garden glorifying God? **

• we love God by thanking Him for the creatures. Flowers are beautiful and it can bring joy and beauty to your surrounding. If God care so much for all flowers, how much He cares for all of us.
• you bend your back working in the garden, it makes you tired. Think of how exhausted Jesus was when He was bending His back carrying the Cross.
• we take care our gardens to make it look nice, to be a place for birds and butterfly to come, we could ask God to help us care for our souls …to make our souls to be the beautiful garden for the Holy Spirit. Our souls are the sanctury for Him.
• When we take out all the weeds, the bad grass, and the bugs, we can pray to ask God to take out all our sins - prides, hatred, etc.
• When a garden is beautiful, people like to see it. We can ask God to shine through us His Love and Blessings and let it reach to others.

2- How is my working behind a cash register an action that can be done for love of God?

• a smile to your customer can brighten his day.
• standing all day long can hurt your feet, but if you can offer all this pain and pray for the Holy Souls - that would be great demonstration of love for God and others.
• would you criticize your customers if they buy weird stuff or food from your store. If a person buys lots of beer, what first thing come to your mind? would you pray that none will be drunk and cause accident, etcc…
• what would you do when someone comes up and buying stuff that against Moral teaching of the Church? would you pray for people to see that it is wrong?

There are many things we can do to show our love for God. Just relate whatever you do to how you praise the Lord, to how we help others and ourselves in our prayer, etc …Loving others is to love God.

I tend to look for the story behind everything. This is how I see it. This world is/can be a distraction. Even down to my own family. But I have a vocation as a husband, father. That puts me into a leading role in helping others get to heaven. St. Paul describes it as running a race so others can win. Then you have the will of God. I can’t presume to know the will of God, but I think it is safe to say He loves us and wants us to be united with Him in heaven. Make things of this world easier for others, then plant the seed of God in them , gently. You can plant this seed in different ways. My wife wears a gold crucfix on the outside of here shirt. She talks very little about God. But lives her life as a christian. “preach the gospel always and sometimes use words”. The Lord had to kick me in the pants to get going, so I tend to kick others in the pants with my witness. But that brings me to a selective few because it is so very personel. This is subject to change at any time.Belay the distractions of this world, even if that means you are doing all the work and someone else is sitting thinking. Give them something to think about. When you consciously do all your actions for the love of God, all your action become worshipful to Him.

Doing a daily (morning) offering is also very important. Although there are many different ones, here is a good example:

Most Holy and Adorable Trinity, one God in three Persons, I firmly believe that You are here present; I adore You with the most profound humility; I praise You and give You thanks with all my heart for the favors You have bestowed on me. Your Goodness has brought me safely to the beginning of this day. Behold, O Lord, I offer You my whole being and in particular all my thoughts, words and actions, together with such crosses and contradictions as I may meet with in the course of this day. Give them, O Lord, Your blessing; may Your divine Love animate them and may they tend to the greater honor and glory of Your Sovereign Majesty. Amen.
