Do Exodus 34:6-7 and Deuteronomy 5:8-10 explain why innocent children become gravely ill?

The Lord…visits the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation. (Exodus 34:6-7 = Deuteronomy 5:8-10). So, does this explain why innocent children–too young even to form an intent to sin–can become gravely ill, because their parents or grandparents committed some grave sin or sins? This may also explain the events in 2 Samuel where David’s infant son dies by divine intervention due to David’s murder of Uriah and transgression with Bathsheba. May also explain the whole “why do bad things happen to good people” question. Maybe they were good people, but their parents or grandparents (or even great-grandparents) weren’t. 🤷

I would not take that as a general explanation, no.

When Jesus was asked whose sin had caused a man to be born blind, He said it wasn’t because of anyone’s sin.

We live in a fallen world. Not everything is a punishment or a reward. Some things just happen.
